I'd just tell them not to do it. I think tattoos look nice sometimes. On the right people, int he right place, the right thing. Some of them aren't very attractive at all, but if it's tasteful and not overtly sexual or wierd and grungy, then it can make an excellent accentuation to a person in the prime of their life, and when you grow older you can use it to remember your younger days...

The kids in my HS (which happens to be Grey's) that have tats just look dumb. Because, they get this huge cross....but it carries no point for them. It's not like they're religious, it's just for looks...only, it looks dumb. |

I got a tattoo as a joke, I don't really gret things like that. No one will see it when I'm older, its on my ass. But I do like Body Modification. if I weren't so damned conservative about my body, I'd actually undergo some piercings and other such fun. |

My mom wants my sister to have a tattoo, they want to go together to get it done... I don't think I can participate in part 2 since I think tattoos look cool, and I honestly don't care what they do to their bodies, within reason ;p

I personally don't mind them, although it isn't something I'd do myself. And I'd tell them that their skin looks just fine without various markups. |

I like tattoos depending on who have them and what it is. I'd like to get one myself, but I'd wait to see if still like what I want. And for part 2: I couldn't say a damn thing about, it's their choice not mine. |

I don't really mind too much about them. Just when it's all over their body and stuff..that's when it gets a little annoying to me. I'm okay with it. Part 2: I wouldn't really mind them getting a few. It's their body not mine. They're going to regret it later, not me . Just when it becomes a habit then I might tell them that when they're old they're no longer going to be a "Sexy Chica" or whatever but on the inside they will be? |

My mother got her first just a few months ago...yea...like I really wanna see where it is given it's position... But I'm indifferent to it, I doubt I ever get one, but if it suits the style of the person then I would assume it would make the person that much happier/attractive in their opinion, which is really all that matters. Now given the fact that if it was someone like my child that I was raising...simple...either when you're out on your own raising your own kids or at the age that your grandmother first got hers...if you want to go against my word and have needle torture for 30 minutes or more, be my guest. It depends on the tattoo for me.. For some people, it looks good on them or is a nice accent to how they look--for others well, it seems more of being branded than something that makes you look good. anyways, i really doubt i'll get once since well--i really don't have the look to suit a tattoo, not that i am complaining |

Tattoos can look good for some people, but there are so many drawbacks, which is why many people regret getting them. It's not ALL about if it's visually appealing or not. The pigments in tattoo ink contain small metal fibers such as iron oxide. These metal fibers can cause intense burning pain during an MRI procedure. In fact, some meical institutions won't even perform an MRI on people with Tattoos. Tattoos can sometimes cause chronic skinds disorders, like... sarcoid, keloid scarring, allergic dermatitis, photosensitivity reactions (horrible!), psoriasis, and benign OR malignant tumors. Many people experience infection and reaction JUST from the tattoo ink. And don't think because you've gotten a tattoo before, it'll be okay if you get one again. Hundreds of different types of ink are used, none of which are necessary to be approved by an association such as the FDA. So what happens if you regret getting that life-long mark? GOOD laser removal can cost a minimum of $7,000.00 (this is the national average) per tattoo, and takes at least 10 to 15 treatments, spread out over two or more years! Even with this treatment, many times the tattoo is still visible, or scarring is left. And what about the social risks? Any type of bod mod can affect your chances for future employment. Certain jobs are not even AVAILABLE to people who have visible body art! I was at a restaurant the other day and the waiter hand a band-aid on his eye brow. I asked him about it and he said that he had an eyebrow piercing, but he wasn't allowed to let it be seen. I asked about tattoos and he said that if you have a tattoo, you simply can't work there. I could go on for quite a while, but... I think I've made a few valid points already. Of course it's their body, and they can do what they want to it... but that's like saying if someone you love is taking a harmful drug-- it's their body? They can hurt themselves? No! You want to look out for their best interests. You'd want to encourage them to stop for their own sake. The majority of people who get tattoos later regret it later in their life. And... It's really a shame. |

Uhh...Tattoos I'm not saying I don't like tatoos, I just don't think people look very good with them. I mean if they have one or two it's okay but if it's covering most of their body..... I definetely won't get a tatoo because it doesn't suit me and I don't look like those people who have tatoos If I get a tattoo, it'll have to be temporary! |

Originally posted by Kirby PopStar It's their body and in the end, they can listen to your words, but they are the ones that choose their path. Got my tat when I was 19, with some friends that I knew were leaving (one is out of state and one is in the army right now) and I don't regret it. You just have to make sure it's something that you want and that it has some sort of meaning for you. Mine took about two hours to do. Here is an old pic of it. It's a bit hard to see, though; a heart with wings and a halo and a Jap symbol meaning spirit. There's not a lot of color in it either. |

I dont see the fun in getting poked with needles over and over and then having to deal with a permanant art piece on your body. I also dont see how tatoos came about in the first place |

You ask and I come to your aid! ~~~ The word tattoo comes from the Tahitian "tatu" which means "to mark something." It is believed that the first known tattoo dates back 4,000 years B.C. to the body of a man found preserved in a glacier. Carbon dating and artifacts found near him suggests the man is over 5,300 years old. The skin bears a cross behind one knee and a series of lines above his kidneys, marks that some scientists claim to be the first evidence of tattooing. Tattoos found on Egyptian and Nubian mummies indicate that the art of tattooing was practiced around 2000 B.C. and as the Egyptian empire expanded, so did the use of tattoos. The ancient Greeks used tattooing for communication among spies, while the Romans used tattoos to mark criminals and slaves. In Japan, tattoos were also used to mark criminals. First offenses were marked with a line across the forehead. A second crime was marked by adding an arch. A third offense was marked by another line. Together these marks formed the Japanese character for "dog". In time, the Japanese escalated the tattoo to an aesthetic art form. The Japanese body suit originated around 1700 as a reaction to strict laws. Only royalty were allowed to wear ornate clothing. As a result of this, the middle class adorned themselves with elaborate full body tattoos. In Europe, Pope Hadrian banned tattooing as a barbaric custom in the 8th century. For roughly 4 centuries after that there was no mention of tattooing. Captain Cook brought news of the practice and the word to Europe after seeing tattoos performed 1771 in Tahiti. Cook refers to the operation called "tattaw", using for the first time the word "tattawing", before this, tattooing has been called painting or staining. ~~~ Gotta love Google. |

I think tattoos can look really great on some people. The problem is I've seen so many tattoos that just...suck. They're just so unoriginal and boring. If people are going to go though the trouble of getting a tattoo and having to live with it, they should at least make it original and cool looking. I'd like one...but I'm also too concervative about my body. If my future kids wanted them, I'd just tell them to wait at least 1 year, and if they still want it, and it looks cool enough, then they can go ahead. ~Delial |

Tattoos look somewhat cool and attractive.... only if it isn't over done.... you see some people who has their who arms, their heads, their legs.. tattooed and it doesn't look appealing - at all - I'm soon going to be getting one... deciding wether my lower back or in the center of my shoulder blades |
