for me it is a toss up between SMB3/SMW1/SMW2. each one graphically topping the other. but visuals are not the topic. Gameplay is. SOOoooo, my final choice is Yoshi's Island. NO wait, SMB3.

what do you think?

I wonder if the Lost Levels would fall under SMB, since they are nearly the same game... just different levels.

Anyway, I have a bandit rank, and what game is that in, hmm?

Tell me, JJ. They have different levels, correct?

Would you say an SMW hack is the same game as SMW? I doubt it. So why would you say SMB2j is the same as SMB?

I'm not saying they're the same game. I just think the gameplay of SMB2j is similar to SMB...

Nice idea to avoid a new "Which <list of selected Mario games> is your favourite Mario game ?" thread, just by using an alternate title - and again we have a thread like this

I guess Surlent is right about this poll being like a "Favorite mario" poll. I was originaly going to ask which mario game had the funnest swmming levels. But that sounds weird so I figure I should poll over the best gameplay mechanics overall.

For pure running and jumping sake I really like SMB1 (i didn't include SMB2j because i forgot). it's pure and simple. But for high speeds and flying I got to go with SMB3. It feels faster than SMW. But again, SMW has a better flying system. apples. oranges. country. ROCK n' ROLL!!

I think SMB2 is fun and all, but the handling is a tad touchy for me, especially when jump from vine to vine.

And I know I would have loved Yoshi's Island ten time more than I already do if it had come out sooner. Level designwise, I do think that SMW2 is the best.

The level design usually destroyed that - after you mastered flying (very easy - there's even that small beginners area in Donut Plains 1 ) you easily could fly over most of the levels; in SMB3 you had more trouble with this; either it lacked the space to take the speed or the power-meter just stopped when there was no platform to land on

As for swimming control/levels, definitively SMW; you have a better controlling of Mario underwater, and could also influence Mario's height by using up or down on the pad - not possible in SMB3.

SM fucking L !

I don't know, this game is just so good, and the love the controls and sfx. And maybe not quality-wise, but the gfx just seem like what a GB Mario game should look like.

Super Mario World. I think it has the best map and level design, and riding Yoshi was the best thing they could do. Also in here they added the Yoshi Coins, an additional quest for each level, and the secret worlds like the Star World and Special zone.

SMB was a revolution in the platform gaming... SMB3 extended it alot.

But I vote SMW2, as the gameplay in that game is excellent. I liked how challanging it is.

Ive always been a fan of Yoshi's Island. Its gameplay is nice and smooth, easy to master. Plus the difficulty is just perfect. Not the hardest thing, but nit baby easy either. The abilities given to yoshi are nice too.

That maybe true, but my favorite swimming comes from good ol' SMB1. the rates in which mario rises and falls as well as the speed of a forward direction are the most reliable in this game. Reliable as in I am given a greater ability to predict where mario will end up given x amount of speed and y amount button tapping.

SMW2 has for me the best game play, but the crying of Baby Mario is bad and the level design and GFX are very good, but I'm a fan of SMB3, too.

I think that the gameplay in SML was terrible. Mario fell too fast, and the GFX were too small. I did like the gameplay in YI though.
