Scrollbar post layouts are fugly. They make your post harder to read since the user has to flip between scrolling the main window and scrolling your window.

Your priorities are backwards... a good layout should fit the post.... the post shouldn't be squeezed to fit the layout.

To make your current layout more dynamic... you could break it up into tables. It looks like it's just one BG image right now... which is kind of silly considering the layout is fundamentally table-shaped with a side image.

Break up the box image on the right so that you have a left image, a right image, top, bottom, and each of the corners. Then just do a regular 3x3 table will cellpadding, cellspacing, and border all set to zero. Put each of the corner images in the corner table in the form of img tags... but put the side images as background images for the sides of the table so that they'll tile and "stretch" with the table as it grows/shrinks. The middle of the table is your post. You might have to put another 1x1 table (with border set to zero.. but have some cellpadding) inside of the middle cell so that your text isn't so close to the border.

Then put THAT table inside a 2x1 table. Left side of the table has the above mentioned table... and the right side could be empty with your blue guy image as the background (to avoid him from repeating you could make that image taller... it could be 2000 pixels tall and it'll still compress down to nothing if the extra space is a solid color).

Only forseeable problem with this is I'm not sure how you'd get the gradient effect with your text area... but I'm sure that's do-able as well.

Anyway if you get that set up... the layout will grow/shrink with your post size without any distortion or image repeating (if done correctly) and you won't have a fugly, pain-in-the-arse scrollbar on your layout.

Yea...you see...we got a duplicate thread by him about this in Modern Art.

So...go there for it.
