Most Dvd players over here in Britain seem to be pretty much all region free nowadays. Ah, the wonders of legislation.

Originally posted by Kitten Yifferwell, as long as they work for me, and will do what i expect them to do (store data for as long as I live), it's all good... hm...DVD players that can be region free...well, I could make my DVD+/-RW become region free but it isn't worth it. My DVD player is a sony, so no way that can ever be region free |

Colleen: I've got a multi-region player, it's just that it's illegal to own a DVD or video in this country that hasn't been rated by the BBFC, our cinema certificate agency. While it's designed to protect the UK public, if you're being resonable and importing harmless anime then it's a pain in the butt. The authorities usually don't take notice once you have it, but they don't like importers at all. (edited by Kasumi-Astra on 07-15-04 07:43 PM) |

You know, that sounds like bad censorships. Sure every country have something that rate the movies, but stopping imports becuse they aren't rated...

It doesn't make sense not to rate them but then the whole thing doesn't make sense because it's not like you're importing from your drug lord in Cuba

Yes, DVD will be outdated in 10 years, because there are already Blu-Ray readers and writers, and there will probably be enough material out in 2014 to justify getting one. No, it won't be obsolete. There was a big project in Sweden doing R&D in the field of small plastic 'chips' (for lack of a better word) the size of a cell phone SIM card that could already serve as 30 GB HDs. Last I heard they got cancelled a few months back. I really hope someone picks it up again. |

The law of supply and demand. At the start, you produce few units, therefore the prices are higher. As you sell more and more units, you make more money and can therefore justify putting in larger orders for parts and such, then pass the savings on to the consumer. Quite simple, but of course the format has to catch on. |

Shit... I still think people will use DVD's in the next 10 years. For the whole illegal music swapping and stuff.. not that innocent ol' me would EVER do anything like that ; Unless like something better would be created for that use... |
