Well, if you got a good guy who can streamline the levels then it might work, they can adjust the level difficulty accordingly with how early in the game it takes place.

Well... it seems he hasnt told us what we need to do, and how to do it. We dont even know level specifications!

SM_Gamer, you really need to tell us what we need to know and thats..

1: What kind of levels
2: ExGFX or not
3: Where to send it
4: Anything else I forgot

At the rate this is going, its gonna crumble and fall through the floor.

Ps: Ive been using alot of lists in posts lately... is it a disease?

This could work. I tried to do something similar before with my Mario's Fun Levels hack. It didn't turn out the way I expected it to. I only got 1 level and that was from RapTop (and it is in the hack, just open it in LM and you can see it).

You just would have to have a whole bunch of people submitting levels, or you won't be getting any.

And the difficulty thing really bothers me. One level is super easy and then I need five hundred savestates to beat the next and then it is a whole lot easier for the next level.

One more thing: Secret Exits. How would those work?

HH is right though, you could put them in order from easy to hard, and have the superhard ones be secret levels.

And cpubasic... How would secret exits NOT work? I'm not following you.

The secret exits would not work because the hacker who does the overworld wants it a certain way, but the level submitters don't know what levels are secret exits and what are just normal exits. Let me show you an example.

We have a basic overworld. You start out at Yoshi's House. You can only go left. After that level, there is a secret exit level (red dot on map). The first level is 105 and the second is 106. The people who submit the levels will think that both of them are just normal exits, when actually there is one normal and one secret exit level. This will cause confusion and disastor.

Unless the author completed the overworld and showed the entire overworld filled out, there would be no way this could work.

But, in the first post the guy said the idea was that he'd show people the overworld, and they'd make levels based on it. Presumeably, there'd be signups, and specific levels would be given to specific people, so...

It would be better if the OW was made around the levels in this case. The people shouldnt have to alter a level just because it didnt fit on the OW exit map. Besides, the best part about the OW editor is that its so easy to change stuff, and to add an extra level exit would only take a few minutes.

Here are level guidelines:

1.ExGFX and ExAnimation GFX are allowed(just send me the ExGFX with the level).
2.Send it to me in MWL format.
3.If the level is good, but has some errors, I'll fix it and make sure the level creator is notified via PM.
4.My e-mail address is dandavw@aol.com(send them there).
5.Send me the extra areas as well(otherwise, I'll make them).
6.Have fun contribuiting to the first Public Level Hack!

I'm looking for something like plains and mushroom object tilesets(exceptions are castle and switch palace).

I think I have a way for you to organize this hack... very well in fact. Ill PM you the details later, right now, I have to type ... (Lets just say it involves a very specific way of doing things.)

I got the message and I've decided to make up some kind of system.

1.Person makes a level and sub-levels(areas with pipes or door leading to and from the main level).

2.Person sends me level(through uploading to server or attachment in e-mail).

3.I look over level and test it(after testing, I'll trash it or make some changes to it).

4.If it's good, I place it in the hack and add it to overworld(at this point, if I changed the level, I notify the person via PM).

5.Process starts over again.

Finally, the sub-levels for the 100+ levels start at 13C, not 137.

For the first world I'd like 8 levels:

4 one-goal levels
2 two-goal levels
1 Switch Palace
1 Castle
1 bonus area(i'll make it)

Well... I will submit level 105, which will possibly be the first level. Any ExGFX used will be only for sprites (so I don't have to worry about the Map16). There might be a palette change, but that will probably be only if it is the Normal FG. This is a one-goal level.

Let's see if this type of hack will work. Seems like it is going nowhere right now...

I think I have a good level for 103. It involves like going under the ground like digging blocks like the desert-like cave levels from SMB2,if you know which ones I'm talking about. I just changed the one that says,"A block that Mario can pick up and throw". There is a pipe somewhere that you can go in and go to a secret or bonus level. I don't think I made it too difficult either.,and there are a few surprises too,kind of. I can send it to your e-mail address tomorrow.

cpubasic- I also have that level that I sent you for your game. It was the second switch palace, I think,remember? It was a secondary exit in level 106,I think,but you said it looked like a switch palace. I can send that one to SMW Gamer, if he says it will work.

Also, I think I know a reason that I think all of you are talking about. If you go in a secret level and then go through the pipe again like when I tried it in the digging blocks level, I think I put the wrong number for the exit so I got stuck in a block, then died.
I tried the pipe where you jump out too and I put a note block and for some reason,it wouldn't work b/c Iike kept jumping into it and then died too.

Also, maybe if people make levels that are like almost impossible to finish and have a really long time limit and are not that fun to play, that could ruin it too. We should start out w/the easy ones,make a few medium difficulty ones,and then some easier ones again, but don't make too many difficult and impossible or else people will lose interest-maybe only one or two except when you get to the last one or two worlds.
