The new revolution of hack types is here! I introduce the...

Public Level Hacks.

The idea of this is that the main creator makes the overworld, text, and everything else and the people make levels. The creator chooses levels that are reasonable to the persons liking and adds the level.

I've planned the first one of these types, Super Mario World Ulimate Mayhem 2:Return to Ulimate World. I need submissions for levels 101-105 and 14. Put them in that level number so I don't have to copy it to the correct level number. So, what are you waiting for? I need some Mainland levels for this new method of hacks to become big!

Hmmm.... No ExGFX levels... I have a couple of those laying about...

Want some?

My main concern is if this kind of thing will actually work. Take this for example.

If 30 members submit 3 levels a piece, and some of the levels are awesome, and some of the levels are... not-so-awesome, the hack wouldnt fit together...

On the other hand, Im wanting to find out how this will do... So, about those levels

It's a great idea, but I've lost count of how many times people have tried and failed to do it.

I don't particularly appreciate this. This is a good idea for people who don't have the energy, or will, or time, to make an entire hack for a game, even if they still have some good ideas. I tried this for The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle, hoping people would feel free to make a couple levels without having to commit to an entire hack. Not a single person submitted anything, mind you, but it was certainly worth a try.

As for this hack... are we allowed to use more than one area for a level, or do we have to just stick with a single room per level?

Er, show me somce proof(PICS) that he is making anything (ow, as he said) and i shut up. Saying "i need level 101-104 and 14" won't help at all.

It's doomed from the start...

Reason the first: Secondary exits. People may use too many secondary exits and there won't be enough to keep it all in, plus, the hack organizer won't know where everything is supposed to go.

Reason the second: Incredibly varying quality and difficulty. If you can't get to the good levels because three pointlessly bad levels are in the way, well...

Reason the third: We've all seen this done before and see no reason to contribute as it's never worked before, so why should it work now?

It's a good idea, it could create some interesting level designs in a hack, but so many things could, and probably will go wrong. People quitting work, the level differences make no sense, etc.

Okay...

1: Yeah, but that can easily be fixed with a simple system of organization and submit system. Dude A has levels. Hacker tells him what levels to put them as(because only he knows what levels are taken). Dude A does so and sends files. Dude B repeats the process, and levels are nevre overlapped.

2: This is where the "Level is too hard, make it easier" line comes in. And the fact that the hacker can just trash said levels. (Its also good to have two roms, one to test levels, and another to insert)

3: Because I said so.

seems to be a good idea, as long as "the main creator" doesn't get all the credits... and maybe you could find peoples to make whole words instead of levels, so there won't be too much varying levels...

I'd make a few levels. I'm too busy for a full hack, but I wouldn't mind making a few levels. If there are custom ExGfx, I'd need them from someone.

If they're so damn hard/easy/lame, who says you can't get off your lazy ass and edit the levels a bit? Remove enemies, add some powerups, put in a helping block here and there.

Larger gaps, fewer powerups, more enemies. It's not that hard.

Just because someone says "HERE THE LEVEL" doesn't mean you can't get off your ass and expand on their ideas for it.

Possible thought: have people who want to participate send in 16 levels, sub levels, hidden areas, or whatever, in any way, shape, or form. SM Gamer can then try the levels, and put them in the game where they fit best, either in difficulty, theme, or otherwise.

But the text should be just fine. :o Well it is in FireFox (0.9) and IE anyway. :O But yeah, that happens when the CSS file isn't accessable, it should be fine now, right?
