This morning I woke up. I looked around wanting something to listen to. I had a rough night of nightmares again. Soooo...Something that didn't sound like a kitten getting raped by the big black man in the Ultra High Security prison in the southern US. So, I looked through my CD collection. Punk, industrial, black metal, death metal, Oasis, and some other crap. I didn't want to listen to any of it this morning. Especially not the kitten raping sounds of black metal. Doesn't make good reading music. When I started walking out of my room I slipped on a CD case and fell. Looking to destroy whatever touched me, I grabbed it and noticed my not-listened-to-forever Permission to Land album by the Darkness. Hell, I couldn't remember a single damned song off of this album. I couldn't remember anything but "I Believe in a thing called love". So, I popped it into the CD player, put it on random and snuggled up to my "Great Soviet Short Stories"...FYI All Russian literature blows. Don't bother reading it unless you are a bit of a Slavophile. So, this is how it goes:

Black Shuck: Fun kind of hill billy sounding rock, except if Britain had hill billies. Made me want to listen to George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Really energetic song with some great riffs...You know, it is almost an homage to Tenacious D.

Get Your Hands Off My Woman: -meh- Kind of funny, nothing to good. I didn't particularly like this song. I really like the intro.

Growing On Me: Holy fucking flying rodent awesome. I listened to this song on repeat for an hour. I just love how it rolls on in a nice metal-love-ballad. Totally kicking.

I Believe In A Thing Called Love: What? It is their most popular song, and I like it. We all know it, we all love it.

Givin' Up: Kind of like Black Shuck. If Johnny Cash wrote Queen influenced songs during his opiate binge in the 60s and 70s, I'd have to say it'd sound like this. Speaking of Cash, I fucking love his American releases. In fact, I've bought them all on cassette, vinyl and CD/Audio DVD. I just love listening to all the formats (although the Audio DVD are my uncle's, he is an audio buff, but whenever I'm over there it is either Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine or aforementioned Cash). Quite the enjoyabe Darkness tune.

Stuck In A Rut: I just don't like this song too much.

Friday Night: Happy da! This is such a great 50s love tune throw back. I could listen to this all day. It is one of those cute little tracks that you can enjoy for the fact that it is something that (if you've ever had an accidental crush on someone you see all the time, but never really talk to) really relate to. Shut the hell up. P.S Killer solo.

Love On The Rocks No Ice: Not much here.

Holding My Own: Eh? What happened to the momentum of the album?

Not a song per se, but I'm listening to a .wav of the entire conversation in Star Trek II that leads up to the infamous "KHAAAAAAN!" Probably the best line besides that is Admiral Kirk's "Still!....Old!....Friend!........You've managed to kill just about everyone else, but like a poor marksman, you keep. Missing! The target!"

And yes, he says it just about as I've punctuated it.

I think I regain it by listening to William Shatner's new RAP album. That and I just sat down and listened to Burzum for hours today. Not a pleasent experience when you're not in a good mood listening to Varg's music.

The only Burzum I've heard is that one ambient album he put out while in jail. Apparently they wouldn't let him have a guitar. It was good stuff though, eerily good.

No, he wouldn't play a guitar because he declared them "nigger instruments".

But now he is a born again Christian and quite anti-NAZI. According to him, he didn't mean anything he said, he was just acting to save his life. XD

Bloc Party - Helicopter
Album: Silent Alarm

If nothing else extremly amazing comes out in the first quarter of 2005, this'll definitely be my fav album of the beginning of 2005. Really like it, and this song is kickass.

np: The Bad Plus: "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Deaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. It starts off like a fairly standard cover, then goes into complete batshit territory for the second verse and chorus. By the time the big chorus/outro rolls around, they've worked their way back to the original melody, but not exactly. In other words, what jazz is supposed to be.

Oh, I forgot to mention. They're a small combo (piano/bass/drums) that plays originals, but isn't afraid to cover other, more recent and decidedly non-jazz songs. Like Aphex Twin's "Flim" (also on this CD). And, uhm, "Heart of Glass". New album, they take on "Iron Man" and the Pixies's "Velouria". Me likee.

Phinox: Welcome to the board This thread isn't really for posting what music genres you listen to, it's to post the current song you are listening to and some info about it. For example why you like it or some story behind it. And the thread is also for discussing songs recently poster here by other members
No major error on your part, just thought I'd point it out. Hope to see you stick around, though

Might as well do another run:

>>>

DM Ashura - neoMAX (Full Version) :: Considering what the original was, a hard hitting techno piece, this version made by someone other than the original author makes you think otherwise. Most will want to figure on the MAX series in the Bemani games like Beatmania and DDR, at least for those that know of it, when listening to this and then comparing.

Quite honestly, it's a good piece by itself, enough mood in it, if nothing else, throughout.

La Pucelle: Tactics OST - Miracles Do Happen :: Dunno why I started listening to the ending of this again. Another moody song, and I really dunno why I'm listening to them as of late, but it seems to suit stuff as of late. Just in case people look for it, it's not in English, but it conveys enough to give you an idea of what they're getting at emotion-wise. That's the great thing about music, language isn't really a barrier most times if it's presented right.

Okui Masami - SHUFFLE :: Pushing aside the moody ones, this one's a bit more upbeat. Course then with Okui Masami, you get that a lot. Really can't say a lot else other than it's a good listen...in the repetitive sense.

>>>

That's about all I can think of for now.

Lacuna Coil and Gwen Stefani - To Live is to Die / What you Waiting For (Jarukoth Mix)

Okay, so this remix doesn't really exist. Truth be told, I had this friggin Gwen Stefani song stuck in my head for the past few days. To water it down, I decided to play another random song from my Winamp playlist.

Whamo. Lacuna Coil.

Strangely enough, the chorus of both songs together really isn't that bad. And let's face it, this haphazard hodgepodge is about as close as we'll come to seeing a duet between Cristina Scabbia and Gwen.

EDIT: Got another good unlikely one...

Linkin Park and Rob Zombie - Don't Stay / Scum of the Earth (Jarukoth Remix)

I don't get it, but there's something about it that seems appealing... O_o

"Turns to Stone." by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)

I am very very very jealous of a friend of mine who got to see them in concert. I would give anything to be mesmerized by the musical stylings of the great Jeff Lynne.

I'm listening to their song Hurt. Russian Heavy Metal is absolutely stunning. The use of violin and brutal vocals combine to make just a grinding experience that is totally rocking.

np: Ja Rule feat. Fat Joe & Jadakiss: "New York New York"

Blech for the first verse. Because it's Ja Rule's. Although the beat's surprisingly not significantly less than hot. And he only gets the first verse and first chorus. So yeah, in fact, there IS a Ja Rule song I don't utterly LOATHE. But I credit Fat Joe and Jada for that.

Remember when people were saying Jadakiss would be the big solo star from the Lox? Were they ever... ... right.

Powerman 5000 - Last Night On Earth

Its on Smackdown vs Raw and its pretty good. Poor Spider's starting to sound older though. Its better than Transform, but lacks the soul of Tonight The Stars Revolt! Worth a listen though.

Phish - Farmhouse

Wow this is really great. Phish is not only quality rock, but a lot of their songs have really good background beats which are catchy. After a few verses a small block of lyrics repeats and this is the part where you may want to stop and really listen up. Like a lot of their's, this one is likely drug-induced, hence the trivial concept in the lyrics. "Cluster flies"

A labour minded Southern Californian political folk performer. Absolutely awesome songs that preach the power of the worker. I definitely suggest finding out where to download his free online album.
