Reduced to Paste - Cattle Decapitation

Try to guess which one is the song, and which one is the band. This is a death metal band (or goregrind if you want to get ridiculous about it) They're not bad at all but not great. Although, they do seem to be getting better as they progress. So who knows what might come from them.
Fun fact: They're vegetarians. Yay. Let's see them play at the next PETA get-together.

I've just been to town to buy two albums.

I've got Rammstein's Reise, Reise in my CD player at the moment, and I've just finishing listening to the first disc of Mansun's Kleptomania.

The fourth album sessions on Kleptomania are great, probably the most typical of Mansun where all the other albums have spun in different directions.

Rammstein's Reise Reise starts very well alebit on quite a slow note. The slow pace makes it sounds a lot like Mutter, but now I'm on track four, Keine Lust, and it's picked up some pace.

John Butler Trio -- Betterman

By an Australian band, who are currently rising to popularity with their recent album "Sunrise over Sea". This song is however, from an earlier album, and is IMHO one of their best -- if not their best song.

Not sure how to describe or categorise this song, I guess I could call it "Rock" although it's fairly mellow. Well worth a listen to.

Rist - Pantera

This comes off their best album ever, Vulgar Display of Power. Which just so happens to have one of the best album covers ever. I get a chuckle out of it every time I see it. If the album cover doesn't match the album name, then I don't know WHAT does.

Anyway, this song kicks ass, just like the rest of the album. It's a shame Pantera is on hiatus while the band members do their respective side projects.

Tupac feat. Someone else - Smile

Aww a nice ole lil classic that I remember hearing in the 90's, I think . Great song, great beat, great lyrics..if I can remember. I don't remember when exacly this song came out or what CD it's on since I didn't care much about what CD it was on back in those days and I barely cared about who did the song (now I do btw) so yeah. Some nice old skool for ya. (Old skool enough? Eh..I guess )

Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants - The Dillinger Escape Plan

Holllllly fucking shit. I just got this album an hour ago, I was surprised my store had it. They probably have had it for awhile now but it's not labeled on the top so I must have missed it.

Anyway, this whole album is greatness, and so is this song of course. Their new vocalist kicks ass! I like the way the direction they're going. Kick ass stuff here which is sure to be in my cd player for weeks on end from here on out.

The album cover/booklet has some nice art to it. But I'll be god damned if I can fold this fucking thing back to how it originally was. I've been working at it for a good ten minutes now.

Oh, and the lyrics in the book, very streched out.

NP: Saltus - Slavonic Pride

A really good album from a really bad band. Saltus is basically an amalgamation of the majority of Ukranian black metal gods. In concept it sounds good, and the sound IS good, but they really suck. The only thing that these guys do is ignore WW2 and what happened in the Ukraine and go "YAY, NAZISM". The turn on for the album is that it is based around the myths of the region and the only real NAZI shit going on is in the booklet, which is unneeded aside from lyrics.

I've also been listening religiously to the song Big Michel by Dayglo Abortions. I just find that song hilarious, it is about a big fat French Canadian drunkard that goes to Hell and fucks Satan up the ass. He then declares himself the inebriated overlord of Hell for all eternity.

Papa Roach - Be Free

Off of thier new album. I don't know what it is about this song, but I've had this stuck in my head for the past few days. It's catchy without being too annoying. If you ever liked Papa Roach at any point, you might want to give this a listen.

Sum 41 - "We're All To Blame"

This is the kind of music I always wanted these guys to make.

It's a good balance of thier obvious Iron Maiden influences (listen to "Introduction to Destruction" and "Pain for Pleasure") and thier pop-punk past. A nice heavy intro and verse line leads to a slower chorus with a pretty two-guitar harmony. The vocals are a little lower-pitched than thier previous songs and seem to be commenting on society (I don't feel like taking apart the message right now, do it yourself ). Sadly, this pretty much repeats throughout the song, with... no guitar solo.

I know that they do have a wide range of stuff, I've heard one song being compared to "Battery" by Metallica... I'm looking foward to getting this album.

np: Supergrass: "Kiss of Life"

If you can't appreciate this nugget of delightfully overlooked Britpop, YOU MAKE ME CRY. A little more in the ways of keyboards than I'd expect (then again, I only own their self-titled album) but still exactly what you'd think you'd get from them. Rides a surprisingly funky (dare I say it?) synth line... everything just weaves together. It's on their greatest hits compilation (Supergrass Is 10, which is still a Fucking Great Name, at least not counting McLusky albums), though, so go get that shite if you don't have it already.

Yes- "Into the Lens"

Track 4 off of Drama, the black sheep of the pre-90125 albums, mainly due to the lack of frontman Jon Anderson. In his place, we get Trevor Horn of the Buggles (Eh?). In any event, this is one of my favorite Yes songs, and certain sections sound like something the Buggles would do (Which makes sense, as a stripped down version of this song called "I Am A Camera" would appear on a Buggles album).

As for what it's about? You got me, this is Yes we're talking about after all.

Just grabbed some Simon and Garfunkel songs since I've never really gotten into them much before.

My current favorite is "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover" because of its sad guitar chords and schizophrenic switches into major key. That happens twice in the song, and the switch to major key entails a vast change in overall theme, as a chorus of women are there to encourage him to "Make a new plan Stan, hop on the bus Gus." Really a playful switch and half way through it reverts back to melancholy. Then goes back to encouraging him to just get out of that relationship in an uplifting tone. Definitely one of their best songs.

I've always like things like Cecilia and Scarborough fair, those are highly recommended as well.

np: Billy Idol: "Don't You (Forget About Me)"

This is just wrong. It's all slick and crap... recorded for his 2001 greatest hits compilation, so it's slathered in drum machines and other processed guitar heroics. Really doesn't do anyone any favors. And what's with the harmonica? However, I will say that at least his voice works disturbingly well for this song. Sometimes he sounds kinda like he's trying to be Jim Kerr, but he takes this heapashit and makes it work. (Okay, he doesn't, but he tries his hardest.)

Bob Dylan - Tangled up in Blue

Pretty good. It's fairly mellow, but also captivating, so its sole purpose isn't just background music, like a few of his others. And yes, Bob Dylan plays one mean harmonica. Yes!

This is a fun song, something to listen to if you are in one of those moods. Its nothing great, very basic and simple. I'm listening to the whole cd, it just happens to be on this song now.

Right Now by SR-71

A cool song with a moving feeling. Everytime I play it, it reminds me of the anime Love Hina where the main character keeps getting knocked around by his love when he crosses the line by accident...
