Megadeth - "Repcipe for Hate... Warhorse", off the album "The World Needs a Hero"... I think this was released sometime around the year 2001.

Mustaine makes incredibly good use of a long-forgotten metal technique, which is the use of intensity in turn with anticipation. The song starts off with a fast chromatic piece, with the guitars playing inverted powerchords and the drums pounding on the snares and the double bass. This shoots the intensity of the first ten seconds up through the roof. The song then falls back into a gentle acoustic piece. I think it's minor-keyed. Anyways, the acoustic part would be very mellow on it's own, but since it follows an incredibly intense part, it takes on an eerie tone, and makes you anticipate (and, for some people, probably even fear) the intensity returning. Mustaine then slowly weaves electrics and heavier riffs into the song, slowly pushing the intensity further up until it blows back through the roof. The song ends with a slight variation on the riff it began with, once again with the snares and double bass very prominent in the mix.

Mustaine gives heartfelt lyrics on what appears to be how much he hates his family. On this album his singing is surprisingly clear, especially in contrast to the way his trademark snarl slurs his words into an unintelligble mess in his earlier albums.

Megadeth has a new album due out September 14th, titled "The System Has Failed". I've already seen the cover and heard some of the tracks. Mustaine seems quite angry at George Bush, who makes an appearance on the cover of the album, along with several other political figures. (I can make out Bush, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfield, and Condolezza Rice by looking at it... There's some other people I can't seem to identify. None of them seem to be Kerry, but since the art isn't finished yet, I don't know if he'll be put in later.)

SD3/SoM2 - The Sacrifice, Part III

'tis the second part of the final boss fight theme in SD3 (the first part is sorts of linear/boring). Just sounds good.

...no...wait...while I'm typing this, it changed already...

FFVI/FF3us - Vector Laboratory Theme aka Devil's Lab

You see, I renamed many of t3h FFVI tracks in order to make the nomenclature a bit more related to the game itself. w00t soundtrack, sounds sorts of techy.

Both of them pwn. But I think the first one is slightly better than the second one. And yes, I'm listening nearly only to SNES SPCs. That means, I haven't found anything better yet. And I'm quite sure I won't become tired of that, because I am already listening to this exclusively (that is, not while playing) since I was about 10. And I am not yet.

So, enough written. I'm no good at describing things.

One post closer to the 1k mark. w00t.

Remind me to get a turntable hooked up. I have Animals and Wish You Were Here on vinyl.

np: Doves: "Rise"

I REALLYREALLY need to get some of their stuff. It's AMAZING atmospheric pop. It's got some psychedelic tendencies, more so than "Here Comes the Fear" and "Catch the Sun" (the latter of which is poppier and less, ahem, poppy-influenced, so to speak). Came out of the same Manchester scene as the Stone Roses and Charlatans UK, although this is moodier and not quite as druggy. Or at least on different substances.

Yyrkoon - Ultimate Sacifice

Yyrkoon is a death/trash metal band from France. I'm a pretty big fan of both of those genres and these guys are starting to grow on me. The vocals (or I should say growls) arn't very impressive, but I enjoy their music. This track is from thier 1996 demo "Oath, Obscure, Occult".

My friend just introduced me to Weird Al ...

Currently, Im listening to 'Hardware Store'

Its a quick paced rock song that is about a small town that is getting a hardware store . Its really fast paced, and It gets even crazier when he goes about naming item after item that you can find in a hardware store (You can hardly keep up with what he is saying)

Weird Al makes some really funny parodies off of some of the 'now songs', and makes some of his own. (Most of them are about other crazy subjects too. )

Weird Al... Man, when I was 10 I was in love with that guy (not literally). His music always cracked me up. Now, they arn't as funny but still pretty amusing and creative.

Happy Hardcore Athems - 99 Red Balloons (Remix)

I'm not really sure who sings this song (Please tell me if you know) but the song is interesting. I never took the time to listen to all the lyrics but from what I gathered, its about the Cold War turning into World War 3 because of balloons or something along those lines. Its a pretty interesting song. Happy Hardcore did a remix of it. I'm not to sure what Happy Hardcore is exactly since many people tell me "They arn't a group" but I have found alot of stuff with that name as the artist so I don't know. Anyways. Its a techno remix. Not to shabby.

Represent, Cuba - feat. Heather Headley

I love this song..I'm not from Cuba but I heard it on the Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights soundtrack..in the movie. That movies cool..well to me. The music goes well with everything. For some reason I've been getting into this music lately. I blame it on K1, it's good though . I should buy the soundtrack..when I get money..one of these days. I remember Heather Headley in another song from about 2 years back. I think it was called "He is". I don't know if she sings in spanish in this song. I haven't been paying attention ..hmm a little bit. Yeah she sings a little bit. She has a nice voice though.

Iggy Pop - Little Know It All

Yeah, I know this song has been around for a little while, but it's still good to see the old dog still has some life in him. Sure, it may not be a classic like some of his earlier stuff, but it's still good, and pretty darn catchy too. It's a refreshing new school version of an old favorite.

Apple: Nena did the original (And the English translation), I couldn't tell you about the remix.

The Minibosses- "Ninja Gaiden" (Live)
Other than the fact that Arron Burke mispronounces Gaiden as "Gay-den", this is a pretty rocking medley of Ninja Gaiden tunes from probably the best-known video game cover band out there. The tunes we hear: The prologue theme, Level 4-3, Boss theme, Level 5-1 (In that order). Given that they're a small band, there's a certain rawness to the recording (You can hear "WOOO-HOOO!" as they kick into the 4-3 theme) that I like in my live recordings.

Metallica- The Four Horsemen

Back to my old playlist. This is one of the first Metallica songs, and it's on their first album "Kill 'em all", I hope they will perform it when they come to Montreal on October 4th.

The Advantage- "Zeldtra" (Live)

More video game cover tunage, this time from The Advantage, and covering Contra's Snow Field theme and the dungeon theme from the original Legend of Zelda. For whatever reason, they lay off the distortion, unlike the Minibosses, prefering to let the melodies shine through.

Meshuggah - "I"

Clocking in at 21 minutes...This song is fucking nuts. The entire point of Meshuggah (Along with other bands in similar genres, like Dillinger Escape Plan) is that the entire band hates YOU, thier listener, on an entirely personal level, and wants to make you suffer as much as possible. They utilize weird, forgotten, and almost taboo pieces of music theory to make this possible.

Generally, throughout the album, one piece of the drums (snare or cymbal or kick drum or something) will be playing in standard 4/4 time (For those who don't know much about playing music, 4/4 is the time signature that you hear in 99.9% of music, it's the one you can tap your foot to in a nice 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 pattern.)... While the rest of the band goes into some crazy 7/8ths or something, or even worse, 7/13ths polyrythms.

As far as I can tell, it's about someone who tried to become immortal but went insane when he failed due to his intense fear of death. I can't really say any more about it, because I can't tell what the fuck the singer is saying half the time.

I'd say that, regardless of wether you will hate or love this song, DO DOWNLOAD IT. If you really hate it, then at least you'll educate yourself and learn to know exactly what it is that you hate.

I couldn't resist not listening to this song. I haven't heard it in awhile. I got hooked to this song from the beat. Me love dee beat. It's different but good. The lyrics are okay but I like the beat way more. I end up singing it XD I remember when it first came out I'd watch the video over and over because I didn't have MTV..but it worked!! I should buy the CD..since I heard most of the CD and liked some of it.

Anonymous DoD Contestant (It's actually me. ) -"Rush N Attack: Bassic Training"

Just listening to my August Dwelling of Duels entry. This month's theme was Military Games, and I decided to do an all bass rendition of the theme from level 1 of Rush N Attack. It kind of loses something on the laptop, but hey. Reaction to the song has generally been positive.

READY, STEADY, GO by L'Arc~en~Ciel

The first track of these people that i actually like. L'Arc~en~Ciel is more of JRock and I really don't have a penchant for JRock. However, the beat, the movement, the feeling the song give mes makes this song uber school. So if you need a new type of rock to listen to (and maybe not care about understanding the lyrics), then try out this song.

I'm listening to The Holocaust by Exciter.

Exciter pwns. They're an old Canadian thrash metal band that came out way way back in the early 80's. Great great stuff. Vintage!
I'm pretty sure they're still touring at small venues. I would love to get to see them someday for nostalgic purposes.

Ooh, now I'm listening to Blackwitch, another song by Exciter. Very kickass song with a great solo near the end. Anyone else listen to them?

np: Jadakiss/Anthony Hamilton feat. Common, Styles P, and Nas: "Why (Remix)"

OoooOOOOOOOOOOOH. Tweak the beat a bit, making it a little less jingly and more drum-oriented. Then toss all the original verses (which were good enough on their own merits) and bring in three more MC's who keep going along the same lines. Nas gets Afrocentric, Common gets a bit spiritual and a bit philosophical, Jadakiss references McGreevey and the USA men's basketball team, and Styles P... uhm, shows up? They all ask the questions that some of us have been wondering, others thought about but didn't realize, and few have spoken. Here's Common's verse (yeah, I know I said lyrics don't count, but I'm already detailed enough):

Why do they say I change for a girl
Why you worry about my clothes if I'm'a change the world
Why you wait until you're 30 to try to be hard
Why I gotta have religion if I believe in God
Why is Bush actin' like we tryin' to get Osama
Why don't we impeach him and elect Obama
Why ain't Rick James remembered for classic hits
Why do we remember Rick for smackin' a...
Why did Ricky Williams retire, they mad in Miami
Why did Justin sell Janet out and go to the Grammys
Why you kill on every song
Why you frown at the screen
There's so many thrones
Why do we argue over who is the king
Why it's over for the gangsta
Why it's over for bling
Why they build Britney up
They know she can't sing
Why a whip and a chain a black American dream
Why I know it in my heart it remains unseen

And that's one of the less pointed ones. Nothing as mind-blowing as Jada outright accusing Bush of letting 9.11 happen on purpose on the original, but still pretty prickly in a good way.

How did I find out about them? I LOVE Metal, so if there is metal in the world, I find out about it. If you know of any Metal I have not heard about PLEEEEASE let me know. Oh, and this song is awesome!!!! I don't really know how to explain it. But no matter how many times I hear the song, I never get tired of it. They also have a really awesome CD. I just got done listening to "I" by Meshuggah.

Now, with witeasprinwow's description in mind, I thought I wasn't going to like it. But that kicked fucking ass. Very heavy and raw stuff. The song had some really great guitar sounds that I'm not accustom to.

S'matter of fact, I just picked up their latest cd today, "Nothing". I'm going to listen to it after I get done with this post.
