Metallica - Master of Puppets

A song about cocaine addiction. One of Metallica's more solid songs, bearing the name of the album it's on. There's really not much to say about it musically, except that Hetfield's voice is a lot better on this album than the last two, and that the guitar harmony part about halfway through is really pretty-sounding.

Dropkick Murphys - "Worker's Song"
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - "Tomorrow"

Our High School recently wrapped on our production of "Annie", of which I was assistant stage manager. In celebration, I ripped a compilation for the people on stage crew I worked with. These were two of the songs that they liked the most on the CD, and they happen to be two of my favorites.

Even if you loathe "Annie" and everything it stands for, give "Tomorrow" a listen. Trust me on this.

Dropkick Murphys - Irish Drinking Song

I was introduced to the Dropkick Murphys through THUG, and I liked their song on that, so I decided to check out their others....and I must say, they have some good songs.

(scoff)

What you don't realize you're forgetting... is "Spicy McHaggis Jig"! Look at the schedule! (stops channeling Woody Paige)

np: The Start: "The 1234"

Total new-wave revival... Aimee Echo has the vocals NAILED. Driven mostly by the bassline, guitar fills every now and then... (drool) The surprising thing? After they got dropped by their label (I think it might have been that the label folded), they got picked up by Nitro Records... that label being Dexter Holland's. Not really their style, but maybe they saw quality and couldn't pass it up.

Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be

Based on an H.L. Lovecraft story, but I have no clue which one. I only know it's not based on "The Call of the Ctuhulu", because they already made a song based on that one (Don't quote me on that spelling of Ctuhulu, there's no way I can remember to spell that word correctly)

I think the bass does a really damn good job in this song. You really do get the feeling of something coming up from beneath the sea. Pretty standard solo by Hammet. Good vocals by Hetfield. It's off the Master of Puppets album. Once again, what would be a good song by most bands gets forced into the background by the still better songs on the album. I think Metallica is one of the only bands that can claim to have that flaw.

I didn't scroll very far down my playlist, but yes, that's a good one too.

Vomitron - Contra

One of the best metal remixes of a video game tune ever. Clocking in at 8 minutes and 54 seconds long, it runs through the entire assortment of tunes from the NES game, Contra. He takes many artistic liberties in replaying it, although not as many as some remixers like Stemage and his Metroid Metal do. I think it works better that way. The soundtrack to Contra was really intended to be a badass smash-your-face-in-with-my-boots kind of tune in the first place, not a piece of art. I would say that the guitar work on this track is incredibly impressive, but unfortunately it's actually been played at a slower pace and sped up using music software. Still, the fact that his shredding skills are only emulated doesn't make the tune rock any less.
