I was going through some old hacks and .ips patches I made, when I found this. Originally, Practice Mode of F-Zero was supposed to have White Land II and Fire Field to choose from, for a total of nine tracks. For some reason though, Nintendo removed access to them, but I made a patch that puts them back in:

The two tracks run perfectly, even when racing against the computer. However, there are problems, like when I beat White Land II in Practice Mode:

This garbled screen comes up, and the game crashes, forcing you to reset. Beating Fire Field in Practice Mode though, no crash happened, but I did get these odd lap times:

Even if it crashes, it still saves your records, as seen in the two screens below, only with weird best lap times:

What baffles me, is why Nintendo removed them from Practice Mode (though, Fire Field being the final and elite track, I can likely see why), and the glitches mentioned above. You can get the patch from here to see for yourself.

AFAIR, the info on how to enable other than the standard tracks in practice mode was mentioned some days ago in the fzero track hack thread.
since i cant find it at the moment, i wont judge, but all i can tell is this:

be honest and give credit where appropriate.
anything else is extremely lame and will damage your reputation more than raising it.

d4s, it's not the same thing...

In the Fzero track hack thread, it is an action replay code which enable White Land 2 OR Fire Field (and only one track in time attack mode).

This brand new hack allows to unlock these 2 tracks and to keep all others time attack tracks... A great hack ^^

Woot, White Land II is my most favourite track ever; great track layout, a large gap near the end and a even more rocking version theme from the first White Land track
The ability to play Fire Field also is great; although you can that usually nasty track as the first one with a little practice (made it on Expert level in King League with the Blue Falcon only; the other leagues were done with that rosa-car-thingy with its 478 km/h )

Hmm... It still saves your scores even when it crashes? Does it crash again next time? Maybe they just didn't allocate SRAM space for it, so trying to get the old scores causes such odd effects.
...Or maybe they couldn't figure it out either, so they removed them.

No, White Land II seems to crash every time you beat it in Practice Mode.

Fire Field doesn't, but you get those weird lap times.

Edit: Sorry about that, I didn't read much of the F-Zero Track Hack thread so I didn't know. But I did make this patch almost a year ago, I just never bothered to release it until now.

Proto-K, great hack!

Yes, the codes to enable practice on those courses (and any number of glitched "courses" with numbers higher than 9) are for the Action Replay and were discovered independently by many people, myself included. But AFAIK, no one's ever done a real working hack! Congratulations!

i would suspect that the game freezes and saves wrong lap times because the pointers to the respective save locations in sram arent set yet or a set to a wrong offset.

just find the corrupt lap data in sram, calculate its current pointer, find that pointer in the rom and update it to a location that seems to be unused.
if you need help on how sram is mapped in mode20 (lorom), i have the info somewhere, dont remember it offhand.

Rosa-car-thingy with 478 km/h = Fire Stingray

Cool patch.

I've always wished you could get Red Canyon in Practice though. Why didn't Nintendo put it in? They could've replaced Fire Field with it, so that they wouldn't spoil the final track.

BTW, Proto, how did you make this? How did you find the spot in the ROM where the game decides to offer 7 tracks for practice and not 9?

I can't remember exactly, there's two bytes in the rom that allow so many choices both up and down for Practice Mode. One for Up / Select, and the other for Down. Normally they both only allow 7 tracks to be chosen both ways, but I changed both values to 9.

Yes, it was only a 2 byte hack.
