After a recent flood here in Green Bay, our yard quickly followed. Everyone here being sick of it, we used a pump, and in 8 hours, we had nearly all of it gone. However, there was just a puddle left, and then, several more inches of rain fell, and our yard was worse than before. Fortunately, it's supposed to be warm and dry for the rest of the week, and it's getting re-pumped. Does anyone else have this problem? (edited by JJ64 on 06-02-04 05:49 PM) |

That's a pretty area-specific problem, so I doubt it... However, we did just have a tornado around here recently. Yep, that's right...a tornado...in New Jersey...Granted, it was a really small one, but still kinda trippy to have one so close by. |

I think my area (Indiana) is usually spared from flooding on account of all the tornadoes we have. It's not as bad as some areas, say Kansas, but last weekend nearly the whole state had tornadoes touch down. I was driving south and just when I thought I was out of one storm system the radio told us about another one.

There was a big flood where I lived severeal years ago. And it was big news all over the country. I was in the right area so the flood didn't affect me, but the ones who had basement had trouble... especially people with cars in their basement. Which there were some off. Going around that day was intresting, someone used a raft. (the water was only 1 DM deep or so) And people who lived near the flooding had problems with their toilets having to much pressure... They have rebuilt the sewage system here, so it won't happen again. |

The flood we had here last year was much worse. There was standing water on nearly every street in Green Bay. In the summer, our threat is severe weather, though. It happens fairly often. Good luck, Anya. I hope you turn out okay. |

Not me, but my Band teacher had her basement flood during a heavy rainstorm. She says the carpet still has water damage.(And this was 2-3 months ago) And I dont think my house will ever flood. I live near the top of a hill, so Its kinda all nice and high and dry. But yeah, there has been a lot of bad weather all of a sudden. Rainstorms every night.... drys out, and just repeats the process the following night. |

Kansas has the most unpredictable weather that I know of. We almost had a tornado, but the town that I live in, Augusta, hasn't had a tornado hit the residence part of town since it was founded like 150 years ago. We did have the rivers flood up though and it drowned our yard completely.

Yeah, our house is at basically the highest point in Waterbury, so we're good as far as major flooding goes. We DO get water in our basement, but as that's nothing more than a glorified storage area, it's all good. |

you are probably in a lot better shape than some people currently living in the sacramento delta area...where a levee broke yesterday and all the delta water is flooding the "island" that the levee protected. lots of crops lost and millions dollars of damage that the state of california will have to shell out because of this. but anyways, i hope by now things have gotten back to normal for you, JJ? |

Well, I'm ready for the one major threat in my area. A nuclear meltdown. My safety protocol is all in order, and my family has potassium iodide pills.

but anyways, i hope by now things have gotten back to normal for you, JJ? Yes, they have. It's really warm now and everything dried up. It wasn't really a major flood like last year. We had a few snow melt problems here, there were flood warnings, but nothing really happened. Things were just... wet. |
