Would it be possible to convert the nes games to a format where they could be played on SNES emulators? That way we could play all the hacks and stuff on zsnes. That would rock.

1) Almost. The CPU is backward-compatible, but the GPU and APU aren't, so you'd have to write new sound/graphic engines. (Which is how SMAS was made, BTW.) I think Nintendo wanted the SNES to be NES-compatible, but it didn't work out.
2) Why? FCEUd works fine. If you want to play it on a real SNES, you can probably rig up some sort of hardware system with the NES's APU/PPU, if you're good enough with electronics. (And if not, I don't see how you plan to make a rewriteable cart in the first place, plus why not make one for NES instead?)

I think he wants to play them with stuff from SMAS. (gfx, music, etc)
If this is what he means, yeah, it's possible.
It would work only with levels.

Well, knuck's right. It IS possible to make an ASM hack for the SMB3 toolbar in SMAS, and then you can just wipe out all the other games, and make the entire game MA, and you might be able to add all the hacks that are in there without ever expanding the rom. Now, what's not practical about that is, no one would take the time to do it. Can't you be happy just playing them on NES emulators?

Actually, not too long ago, DD showed me some screens of MA in SMAS. He needs to rewrite the asm stuff, though.

Oh... I could swear that those shots he did were Photoshop'd... maybe not I'd have to ask him. I know for sure it was just an April Fools joke though

Well, new graphics and stuff ain't really what I had in mind. I heard that some NES games were made compatible with snes emulators. Like ten yard fight. So you know, you can play the nes game with the best emulator out there ZSNES. Plus bringing this game to snesemulators would hopefully bring the smb3hacks with it.

The reason those ROMs were able to be converted was because they use no memory mappers. SMB3 does, and it would therefore be harder to convert. Besides, what advantage does ZSNES have over any NES emulators? None that I can see.

Those SMAS SMB3 screens you saw were fake, just as Kefka said. I put them up for my own contribution to April Fool's day. It wouldn't be that hard to hack SMAS's SMB3, but I choose to stick with NES because it's control is tighter and I don't want to have to refind all the data (easy, yes, tedious also, though).

Well, for playing the games purposes, guess there ain't any advantage. But ease of access to the games, y'know, zsnes you can change games with use of a controller and not have to use the mouse. But ya, people can still use NES emulators if they want to. Just had to check if there'd be any takers to my idea.

As a matter of fact, it's already been done. Try looking for the Japanese SMB2. (thwap)

And another (twap) for the bump. (close)
