This is a thread where people can come and post several ideas they've had, but can't use because it doesn't fit the style they want, or it requires ASM, or basically any other reason. Other people can then adapt them to fit their own hacks, so they don't go to waste.

This isnt such a bad idea....

Personally Ive always wanted to see a computerized mario world....

You mean technically (like in Sendy's wonderful screenshot) or display-ish (like Windows)? Both are cool, but I like the inside-a-computer thing more.

Ok... I was planning on making one of these in my hack.
A level where you basicly forced to run (Custom Block) to the end, while evading traps, and if you make it to the end in time, you could go to a secret exit if your fast enough.

How about Sonic style title cards!

Have random triangles/circles/squares move around, and display a title card before each level in place of "MARIO START".

You'll have to arrange the sprite GFX thing A LOT, or you'd have to do some system-killing draw routines, so that's going to be pretty hard... :-/

If you get to the end of a level and break the tape before a certian time, then the tape acts like a secret exit...

I think The block inserter has a block that forces mario to go top speed in a direction. And I was thinking about time blocks to prevent you from going farther if the time doesn't match (to whatever you set it to) That would also work for checkpoints.

Would it be possible to make a ground pound?
Ie. hold down and jump, when you land it causes a yellow yoshi quake.
You could also make poundable blocks and swiches.

If I had the time to learn ASM, I would make it so that if you started a level from a midway point, you would have a lowered amount of time. This would probably be easy to do with a palette hack, in case anyone is interested in doing it.

Have blocks that change between the two then have blocks that only one or the other can pass through!
Or you can make two player a importaint (Mario and Luigi!)

I always thought it'd be nice to tweak the physics to be more like Sonic, but I dunno exactly what you'd need to change. Consider this for example...

The _ represents the ground, J is a Jump Block, B is a Boost Block, o is clouds, P is a pipe cannon Mario comes shooting out of, and the periods are the path Mario would take if this were a Sonic game. However, instead of bouncing straight up off the jump block, Mario'd continue to the right. This could be fixed with some ASM tweaking of that block, but there's a bigger problem. Where Sonic would fly right over the clouds at the bounce block, Mario falls after an inch or two.

Hmm. HyperHacker's got an interesting idea. Some parts of the Sonic games almost play themselves, thanks to the wonderfully loose physics and object interaction, but Mario doesn't do ANYTHING unless you specifically tell him to.

The jump block would be easy enough to fix, just add a little ASM that stops Mario's horizontal movement. The boost blocks, on the other hand, might be a bit trickier, thanks to the engine differences mentioned above...
