Especially the kind that leave the power out just long enough so that they deplete the battery power in your surge protector and force everything connected to them off, then the power comes back on. Those are ungodly annoying T_T Probably knocked me back quite a bit in the IRPG, too... And because they leave everything off for such a short time they don't even motivate you to do anything, they just annoy you...

not sure what you are trying to say here other that you despise blackouts when they happen...

as for battery power in a surge protector...that is impossible surge protectors don't have batteries...power backups with surge protection is the proper term for such a device or something like that...

i believe a blackout is better than a brownout...brownouts can mess up your system more than a blackout can...weird stuff happens when you use electronics that are underpowered...

Well, it says in the manual "plug in slots 5 or 6 if you want them to operate during a blackout by using the built-in battery in this surge protector."

I had a blackout that happend for a hour or so last summer, thunder caused it somehow.

At first the computer did close down itself, then the lights turned out. It was probably a brownout before the blackout.

Luckily we have alot of flashlights, but I did wait until the power came back so I could check about it online.

The funny thing, it seemed to only affect the part of the village I live in, the rest of the village had power.

There was a short one there this morning right before I woke up, I lost a few unsaved things I had in Paint Shop Pro Certainly annoying, but I'd still rather have that than long power shortages ...

But if they annoy you because of the IRPG, I got worse than that today

Generally you don't run a computer off a UPS (battery backup). The idea is that the battery gives you enough time to save and shut down.
And Kwan, what the FLUCK?

I was in the NYC blackout that happened recently. I took a shower and drained the tank so we couldn't flush to toilet or get any water at all =/

if that is the case, you are just out of luck

anyways, I don't think battery backups last very long anyways...what is the longest they are supposed to last under "normal" usage?

it can vary from 5 minutes to 5 hours...

Ugh, I had about three bad ones (for me at least) where it lasted about six hours.

I passed the time by playing a huge game of Risk that lasted about four hours, and shooting some hoop.

Blackouts are especially bad for me, since my older main computer has trouble turning back on if you leave it off for more than a few minutes. I have to leave it on all the time as a result. I'm afraid one of these days, it won't turn back on at all, and I'll be semi-screwed...and I can't afford a decent UPS...

Last time we had a blackout here (a few days ago, for no apparent reason), I was getting ready for work. I had to take my electric razor to work with me.

blackouts, try rolling blackouts, that's what was happening up in Cali back last summer. It's when the power company decides that they don't want to supply power to everybody so every four hours they rotate districts that don't get power. Oh yeah, talk about fun, always had to park the cars outside, never could be sure that I'd be able to get to the next save point in games, just all around bad times. At least it gave me a good reason to go to the gym and lift and play basketball all the times. There haven't been any rolling blackouts recently but regular ones still happen multiple times a month, I hate california power.
