Answered Questions
Q: Help! I made my character, went into the Training Castle, and now I'm stuck! How do I get out?
A: Currently, there is a bug that prevents you from being able to do the tutorial presented in the Training Castle. At this time, your only option is to delete your charcter, and start over. The good news is that you won't lose anything (other than the random food you are given, which isn't really a loss at all).

Once you have restarted, go into the Castle, and talk to Usher. When you get the option, choose the 2nd choice, Direct Access to Ragnarok. This will warp you to the town of Izlude, and allow you to start playing RO.

Q: OK, I'm trying to delete my character, but it asks me for an e-mail address. What should I put?
A: Since you are never asked for an e-mail address when you create your account, you just leave this blank, and click the OK button.

Q: There are a lot of people to talk to in Izlude! Who should I talk to?
A: Everyone. Seriously. Every RPG in existance is that way. Of course, when you're just starting out, there are 3 important NPCs in Izlude, and they're all right by each other.

The dog will heal you, for free. There should be a dog in every town. Very handy.

The lady on the left, with the Blue Hair, is the Kafra representitive. You can use her to store up to 100 different items. She will also save your game for you. If you die, you will restart in the town you last saved in. There should be a Kafra rep in every town.

The lady on the right, with the brown-ish hair is the Warp NPC. She will warp you, for free, to any town or dungeon. Easiest way to travel. There should be a Warp NPC in every town.

Q: Where should I go first?
A: Talk to the Warp NPC (see previous question), and choose Towns. Scroll down to Prontera, and click OK.

Welcome to Prontera! This seems to be the main town, where everyone comes to regroup, chat, trade, etc. Make friends here.

Once you get a weapon, head South, and out into the killing fields. For now, concentrate on killing Porings (the pink slimes). Once you have gained about 5 base levels, you can try killing Fabre (green bug/slug) or Lunatic (white fuzzy thing). You might even be able to take on Chonchon (black fly). But whatever you do, STAY AWAY from Rodra Frog (green frog) and Creamy (dark colored butterfly/moth)! Once you get your first job, and get to about level 5 in it, THEN you can go after Rodra Frog.

When you kill a monster, don't forget to pick up the items it leaves behind.

Q: What do I do with the things I get from the mosnters?
A: Sell them. Keep any food you get, along with any herbs, but sell the rest. It's the way you get money in RO.

Q: Should I sell weapons & armor too?
A: Yup. All the daggers I've picked up have always turned out to be knives once I've identified them, and the maces have all been clubs. You get more money if you sell them without identifying them. As for the armors, identify the first set of clothes you get. It should be a jacket, which you can equip to increase your defense. Just sell the rest.

Q: How do I identify items?
A: Buy the Magnifier. The shop that sells them is in Prontera. From the fountain, go left a little bit, and then up. You should see a door portal thingy to your left, almost directly above the NPC named Stylist.

Once you're in the shop, talk to the Tool Dealer and select Buy. You'll see a list of things for sale. The first item will be the Magnifier. It costs 40 Z. Just click on it, and drag it to the Buying Items window. Finish the transaction, and then go into your inventory (ALT+E if you don't have it opened). Drag the Magnifier to your Hotkey Bar (ALT+F12 of you don't have it opened), and assign it to one of the hotkeys (F1-F9). Press the proper hotkey, and a list of items to identify will pop up. Select the item to identify, and click OK.

You will have to look at the item in your inventory to find out what it actually is. Also, every time you identify an item, it uses up 1 Magnifier. Don't forget that you can right-click on an item's icon to get a description of it.

Q: OK, I've been killing monsters. I have skill points to spend. What do you suggest?
A: Buy them all. However, don't put more than 8 points into Basic Skill. The 9th point will allow you to change into your first job, but there is an NPC Jobchanger by the fountain in Prontera who will do it for free as soon as you have 10 Job Levels as a Novice.

Q: "I'm a 32/22 Swordsman!" "Yeah? Well I'm a 45/30 Mage!" WTF?! Why are there two numbers given when someone is talking about level?
A: There are two levels for each character.

The first number is the Base Level. This is the number before the slash, like the 32 or 45 in the example in the question. This is the level that increases your stats. You have to spend Stat Points to get anything out of rasing the Base Level, however. You can do this on the Status menu (ALT+A).

The second number is the Job Level. This is the number after the slash, like the 22 or 30 in the example in the question. This is the level that increases your skills. You have to spend Skill Points to get anything out of rasing the Job Level, however. You can do this on the Sill menu (ALT+S).

In order to change from a Novice into your first Job, you need to have a Job Level of at least 10. To change into your second Job, you need to have a Job Level of at least 40.

Q: How does the Guild I'm in level up?
A: By fighting. Every time you get XP from fighting, a certain percent goes to the Guild. This percent is set by the Guildmaster, and can be adjusted from 0% to 99% for each member of the Guild. This means that the Guildmaster could set things up so that 5% of all XP earned by Guildsman A goes to the Guild's level, while 50% of all XP earned by Guildsman B goes to the Guild's level.

When the Guild gets enough XP, it levels up.

Q: How can I check on the level of the Guild I'm in?
A: Use ALT+G to open the Guild Info window. It has TONS of info about the Guild you're in.

Q: Help! I'm in the town of Payon, and I can't find the Warp NPC! Where is she?
A: Heh. This is a common problem. Sofie was the one to figure it out. Thanks, Sofie!

When you're near the South Exit of the town, you should see a group of 3 people on your right, with a 4th person close to them. When you move your mouse over any of those three, it tells you that they are Kafra. If you talk to them, they tell you abou the Bunny Band quest. However, only the two on the ends are Bunny Band Quest Kafras. The girl in the middle is the Warp NPC.

She's kinda hard to click on and get as the Warp NPC, and not as a Kafra. You can either put your mouse on the right side of her head, about where her ear should be, and see if it says Warp NPC. If it does, click away!

The other option is to right-click on the ground with your cursor, and rotate the area. Make sure you hold the right button down until you've finished rotating. Rotating it 45

Unanswered/Partially Answered Questions
Q: How do I get into a Guild?
A: You can ask someone if you can join their Guild. I really don't know what the rules on joining Guilds are, as I was added to the Guild I'm in (Acmlmers) as soon as it was known I was on, since I'm a member of Acmlm's Board. Hopefully, a veteran of RO will answer this question.

As far as I can see, joining a guild isn't level restricted, I think you might need some points in basic skill though

Q: How do I make my own Guild?
A: I honestly don't know. Again, hopefully a veteran will answer this question.

Get the rare Emperium. Theres around 1/10000 chance of getting it from Orc Zombies, and they are pretty easy to kill.

Q: Grrr! My Poring only eats Apple Juice, and I have none left! How do I get more? (From Elric)
A: There is rumored to be a town that sells Apple Juice, but nobody seems to know what town it is.

I told you already, Amatsu

Tips, Tricks, And Advice
Raise a Merchant alongside your normal character. Level up his Overcharge first, then Discount. You'll find RO much easier with more money to spend. Remember to have your normal character dispence drops into Kafra, then use the merchant to sell things off. Keep at least 2k on your normal guy, using Kafra storage costs 30Z

I know, but I wrote this & posted it before I asked you. And you weren't on earlier when I was asking.

Really? I thought that it was free to store things in Kafra...

Thanks for the answers, and for the tip/advice.

This FAQ does not works as a global version. Its more suitable only for Emuz's server. I suggest you change the title a bit.

Well, I'm not planning on submitting it to GameFAQs or the like, so it should be assumed that it's for Emuz's RO server... *shrugs*

I can't change the thread title, but I can add that info to the actual post...

Thanks for the sticky & thread title edit, Jizzy!

Slash Safter, I (obviously) recommend it, but beware: It's addicting!

Kitten Yiffer: Heh. That's about how I felt when Sofie told me how to do it. XD

It's official: I am now helplessly (hopelessly) addicted to RO.

so you want tips eh?

General tips

When you're a novice and picked direct acces, you are automatically ported to Izlude.
DO NOT CHANGE YOUR SAVEPOINT!
why? because Izlude's respawnpoint is close to a shop, a dog, and all the kafra's (the shop is behind the kafras, the fruit merchant).
This basically allows you to respawn, sell off crap, heal, and port back straigth away, without moving. Very handy when you're taking on harder monsters

As a novie leveling in prontera field (or wherever you level), don't bother identifying anything. As a matter of fact, it's nearly always best to not indentify stuff, unless if you note it sells for a huge ammount of money (probably better weapon), or very little (10z), as that probably means it's a rare headgear.

If you're not sure wether or not the item you have is valuable, ask someone before you sell it. I'm nearly always on, but then again, I have 5 characters, so try your luck XD

Your first character should be a swordie, merchant or thief, since those are pretty easy to level. I personally recommend merchant, for the purpose Kwan mentioned.

As soon as you change class to your first job, buy a few flywings if you haven't found any, and make sure you have a sprite occarina at all times with you. Some of the areas you can port to don't have a warp npc yet, because they're still being developped.

A correction to Elric's guild explanation: the guild master sets the tax rate (the % of experience you give to the guild from the exp you gain). Kwan has it on 5% for most people, but he sometimes goes a bit insane when the guild is close to reaching a new level.

Job specific tips

Overview of what each stat does

Strength: Raises your attack power and weigth limit. The only class that should never, ever raise this stat are archers.

Vitality: Raises your max hp, your natural hp recovery rate, and the healing effect of healing items such as potions. Generally, this or agility is part of most characters' main stats.

Agility: Raises your chance of dodging enemies' attacks, raises attack speed. Does not make you move faster though

Intelligence: Raises your magic attack power, raises your magic defense, raises your natural sp recovery rate. The stat to raise for mages and most acolytes.

Dexterity: Raises your accuracy (how ften you actually hit enemies) and raises casting speed (for mages and aco's). This also has the function of raising archers' strength. hence why archers don't need strength.

Luck: Raises your chance at having critical (~double attackpower) attacks, raises your perfect flee rate. (the % of times you WILL dodge attacks, no matter how bad your agility is) Rumoured to influence everything in small ways. Meh.

This alone isn't that helpful, so I give you my opinion on how classes could be raised. Keep in mind this is just my opinion, and not in any way are you obliged to follow it.

RO is, like many MMORPG, supposed to be played in team. No matter how strong your character is, it'll always need someone eventually to tackle bosses etc.
That being said, the best way to get a strong character in RO, is by focusing on 2-3 stats only, instead of having all of your stats being stuck on a low level.

Novice
As a novice, invest your first point in emergency care, unless if you'll be an acolyte. It doesn't matter that your basic skill won't be fully upgraded, as you only get 9 skillpoints to waste here, and you can still change jobs, despite not having the "allows you to change into first class" skill.

When you create your novice, create it "good" straigth away, i.e. if you want to be a mage, put int on 9, for a swordsman have str on 9 for starting stat, etc.
Speaking of this, I'll hint on which stats are important for which classes.

Don't bother buying much equipment in novice stage, because you a) won't have the money for it and b) the stuff you can afford sucks ass.

Swordsman

Have 9 str, 9vit and 9 agi. That's sort of the basic thing for most swordies. Then you can choose to raise either str and vit for your main stats, or str and agi. Don't forget to raise dexterity a bit if you have trouble hitting things. You could also raise int a bit, if you use your skills alot, so you get some more sp.
The only stat I find totally useless for a swordie is luck.
As a swordie, you can get your ass into the culverts pretty fast, and stick there untill your lvl 30-40, or whenever you feel it's going slow.
Everything drops alot of loot here, and the monster's feed dropped by tarou (rats) heals alot better than the red herbs you get from bats. Be aware that bats are aggressive( will attack you when it sees you), and that thief bugs assist eachother.
If you go a level further into the culverts, you'll come across bigger thiefbugs. Big thiefbugs don't assist small ones, and vice versa.

After this, you should understand RO well enough to rely on your own, or the people that help you along the way.

Mage

Rejoice, because for a mage, you barely need to buy equipment, if any at all, since your spells will either kill your enemies straigth away, or they will kill you, since you're not made to take any kind of offense.
Your main stat is int, and that's all you should be raising untill it reaches 99.
Starting stats should be 9int, 9agi and 9dex. As a novice, stick to porings or pupa's, as those don't attack back and give decent jobexp.

You'll have a tough time leveling, so don't get this character if you can't leech(being a weaker class and sharing exp with other characters who can fight, while you play it safe and stay behind them) from a party while casting the occasional spell, don't know what you're doing, or get easily frustrated.

I recommend going for the fire element, as most enemies are weak against it, or aren't immune to it anyways. If you want to go for wind, you'll be stuck leveling in Bialan for a looong time, and as for water, I have no clue where you'd have to level then.

This is a class I don't have much experience with, so I strongly recommend you to either read a general mage guide at gamefaqs, or look up which monsters are weak against your element and go for those. I hunt hodes with my loyal tanker (tanking= being a strong character that hits an enemy once, and then lets a weaker character finish it off, so the weaker character gets the exp from the monster)

Merchant

Make these guys like a swordie. You should max out both overcharge (sell your loot for 24% more money than usual) and discount( buy from NPC stores for 24% less) as soon as possible. getting a cart and putting one or two points in vending isn't a bad idea either, so you can sell your rare finds to others, or just sell potions cheaper than the NPC stores and make some profit out of that.
I have an agility merchant, and it's fun leveling, too bad merchants have very little combat skills. If you have the cash rolling in, you might want to get mammonite; an extremely powerful skill that uses zeny to hurt monsters.
This is probably the only class you'll have to stat reset when reaching your second job, if you want to be able to forge weapons as a blacksmith.
A small warning; you can choose to be alchemist as your second job, but the skills for alchemist aren't implemented yet, so you're better off getting blacksmith. (unless if you don't like how those look, like me XD)

Thief

Agi 9, str 9, dex 9.
And then just raise agility at all times. When you reach about 50 or 60 agi, you might want to raise str and dex some too, depending on wether you can hit things (no? raise dex), or it takes you ages to kill anything (some str or a better dagger).
Definately max out improve dodge, as you rely on dodging things fully.
Nothing much to say about these guys, they're so easy and fast to level. culverts, then geffen, or whatever seems fun and doesn't make you use a truckload of healing items.

Acolyte

My favorite class. You can either choose to be a battle acolyte (ask Hiryuu for tips) or a support acolyte (me! me! me!) (raise int only)
These are hard to level if you go for int base, or a bit easier if you go the battle way.
No matter what you want to be, your first 10 skillpoints have to max out heal. You'd be insane not to get it. After that, you can get any skill you want, depending on your party's needs, or your own. blessing is a great skill to have.
If you're support, save up your skillpoints untill you hit priest, as you can get some really nasty skills then, such as infusing your allies weapons with holy (alot of monsters are weak vs holy), healing everyone if they're close enough to you, reducing their casting time, doubling their damage, etc. Or go for Magnus Excorcismus. it has a truckload of prerequired skills, but it can make a big difference.
Level in culverts if you're battle aco, or go wherever your party goes with share exp on if you're support, and heal them, or type /noshift and heal undead enemies to death (..?).

Archers

Archers might be the hardest characters to level, despite having the advantage of only needing to raise one stat to have the effects of two.
start with 9 dex, 9 agi and 9luck (I think <<; )
Pray that you can get through your novice levels fast, and constantly raise your dex. Buy a decent bow, and make sure to stock up on arrows. This is one of the main reasons archers are so damn annoying to level; you need to buy arrows a lot. Have at least 500 with you, and try to upgrade to silver arrows (holy damage), fire arrows (snipe hodes, wee) or steel/iron arrows ASAP, as they all do more damage.
No culverts, or any place you can get mobbed, for you. try leveling on the maps surrounding towns first (which you've been doing as a novice), and once you have maxed vulture's eye and are working on double strafe, you can start sniping. I love the hode map for this, but it's all up to personal preferences.

(This isn't even remotely close to being complete, but my fingers are starting to hurt)

edit: removed layout for reading ease.

Jeebus, Sofie! I think you posted more that I did!

And no, your layout was NOT removed. Trust me, I saw it. It's a but with Acmlm's new layout system. I edited my first post, and removed the layout from it, but as you can see, it's still there. I think the problem is with the auto-updating layout option...

Since you like to answer my questions...

With the exception of a shop being right there, it's no different from Prontera. IMO, each player should choose which place they like better. Prontera seems to be where everyone regroups, and I almost ALWAYS see someone in front of the fountain.

Of course, I haven't covered how to save, so most people won't know how. I found it by accident.

As soon as you change class to your first job, buy a few flywings if you haven't found any
Are you sure you mean flywings? Because all the do is teleport you to a random location near where you are. Trust me. I got stuck in an undeveloepd area. There were NO NPCs in the town, so I went outside to get killed my monsters, but there weren't any monsters either. I tried to use the flywings, and it just moved me a little north of where I was standing when I used them. I had to have Yarx come teleport me out.

Luck: Raises your chance at having critical (~double attackpower) attacks, raises your perfect flee rate. (the % of times you WILL dodge attacks, no matter how bad your agility is) Rumoured to influence everything in small ways. Meh.
I noticed that I started getting rare items from monsters when I raised my Luck. In any other game I can think of, this is how it works, so I wouldn't be surprised if it worked in RO too...

She just removed the layout from her post, not from her profile. So if you have the auto-updating option on, you'll still see her layout.

And the reason why you shouldn't save anywhere else when you start in izlude is because ... everywhere else sucks. As Sofie says, it's close to everything. But in Prontera, if you save there and die, you restart amongst a few buildings a long way from the town square where everything is and the storage kapra is also far from the square. And you can't save in Izlude again if you've saved somewhere else. I don't know why but no matter how many times I click Save on that kapra, I keep going back to the one I saved before that.

And there has been no reports that luck affect your findings. I'm pretty sure that it doesn't.

Unless they did some modifying to the server files, luck has nothing to do with item finds. Trust me. And if it does it's likely a very small effect.

BTW... does Ore Discovery work with Blacksmiths? If it does that's the ONLY way you can get a bit of extra luck with item drops - Thief Bugs can drop Oridecon, for example.

the flywings are for getting yourself out of a bind if needed. Only aco's and people with a teleport card thingie can use teleport.
I'm pretty sure I wrote down taking a sprite ocarina at all times aswell.

As soon as you change class to your first job, buy a few flywings if you haven't found any, and make sure you have a sprite occarina at all times with you. Some of the areas you can port to don't have a warp npc yet, because they're still being developped.

See?

as to your request:

Ragnamart They (used to?) have the most complete monster data base. Ideal to see if you can take on enemies.

RO HQ's skillsim This is the kind of thing you need when you want to plan ahead, or need to know which skills you need in order to unlock better ones. Extremely handy.

I'll look up some more later, but I use mainly these two.

That's pretty damn stupid that Luck doesn't affect item drops. *rolls eyes*

And my prefered save spot is now Payon. Tool NPC, Kafra, Dog, all right there.

New update to the original post!

And Sofie, you said that Agi affects Attack Speed. I've watched my stats when I increase them, and any time I increase Agi, my Flee goes up, but my Attack Speed stays the same...

Its rounded up by 3 or 4, which means, whenever you add 3-4 Agi, your ASPD will go up by 1.

Your walking speed is raised by a low decimal when you raise Agility. (I think it's about 0.1 or 0.05)

You can buy any juice except Grape from a pet merchant in Prontera, North-west of the fountain (in the shop at the back) (I've blown around 15 k on apple juice)

tip: Mages should use Anthell to level up (Job exp's quite high, I got two job levels from an ant egg) untill they have a lv 3 Fire/Cold/Lightning bolt spell (or Naplam Beat)

Luck has a small influence on drops, I found a few more opals than my knight with my Wizard in Payon dung. The wizard has a bit more luck. I'm guessing there's a 0.5% drop influence at about luck 15.
