Let it be heard: I am SICK and TIRED of online cheaters/glitchers in games like SOCOM, Tony Hawk, or even sometimes Halo. They take what is argueably the best net games in the palm of their hand and they turn them into pathetic excuses for games simply by poppin' in a GameShark and using it to crush everyone online.

In all my time playing games like SOCOM (1 or 2 regardless) or Tony Hawk 4/Underground, I've grown mighty sick of little nerds doing nothing but standing in front of a screen all day putting their GameSharks to good use thinking they're all powerful, and I'm sure many others feel the same. Cheating makes the game less fun to play, and ruins the game for everyone else playing. (although GTA3/Vice City is an exception to this I must say; nothing better than having infinite ammo to go on hours-long killing sprees ) Cheating is a worthless excuse for having fun. Cheating is perhaps the worst online gaming behaviour ever expressed and should fade along with the makers of such products. There is only one "good" type of cheating in all of exsistance... and that is NO CHEATING AT ALL! Due to these infractions, there is one cheat I can think of that I would "want" to be made: an anti-cheat cheat (where people can't use codes. This gets a little confusing as to how it would work. Problably cheaters would automatically be disconnected from the game or their codes would be turned off instantly), which I guarantee won't happen since the makers of GameShark, Code Breaker, and Action Replay are careless S.O.B.s striving to satisfy their very-few-and-in-between "customers".

Furthermore, 9.5 times out of 10, cheaters usually don't have many "friends", just other cheaters. Cheaters are people who want to be hated, and couldn't care less of what other people think. They turn towards their GameSharks to do all the work for them simply because they suck too bad at the game to just do it themselves, or if they get "owned" too much online by someone who could be Asian for all we know. Whatever the matter, cheating is stupid, pointless, and takes the fun out of the whole game.

Feel free to sign my petition here, and, if you must, show it to other sites linked directly to online cheating (example: cheatsocom.com is a site where online SOCOM cheaters rejoice).

Though I dont play online, I have heard stories, and I do know what it is like to cheat, not much fun, at all. Bottom line is cheaters cant prove themselves, and therefore should be eliminated due to their "OMG 31337xorz" ness that exists through a little box.

Even though cheating is fun when everyone agrees to(sometimes at least, and not online of course), its the one person that makes it downright stupid.

I think the planning of how to disable the codes is simple - do a scan for any cheat device before a game starts. If something's found, disable it.

Or there can be simple checks in-game as well - if someone has 50 bullets, fires off 10 and still has 50, well...

That's not how all people cheat. A lot of them take advantage of going through the geometry/clipping. Something that cheat devices aren't responsible for but bad programming.

there's one bad thing about an anti-cheat device, usually another way to cheat that gets past the device comes out instantly...

Oh, really? You don't like cheaters? Too bad that you'll have to deal with them.
Gunbound added a anti-hacking/cheating thing and...guess what? People was cheating in one of the last events!
Cheaters will never stop. DEAL with them.
And about cheaters don't have friends, i have this to say to you. You don't know them. Don't come all "OFMG THEY R GUEY!111"

Yeah, there's never going to be a way to get around stuff like that, but it's always fun to mess with the cheaters. I don't play many online games but when I play vs games with my friends and they cheat it's kinda fun to find a way to get around their cheats through the game. And Knuck, i like that pic.

I don't have much experience with online games aside from the well-policed, high profile MMORPGs like EverQuest and Dark Age of Camelot. However, I'm both ashamed and angry to report that EverQuest has seen more and more hacks in recent times. Especially prevalent are currency duplication and the always annoying macros. Sony Online Entertainment is incredibly strict with known cheaters, but some people out there are pretty darn clever and have been getting away with it for years.

The problem with things like plat duping in MMORPGs is that, if your gaming experience is being disrupted, you can't just log off and go to a different server. You character exists on one server, and that is where you stay (unless you fork over ~$75 - no thank you). EverQuest, for example, has a surprisingly complex economy, and a mass influx of platinum that cannot be allowed for by game developers makes prices shoot skyhigh; the average, "middle class" player, who could previously afford a nice item or two after some reasonable saving, suddenly finds himself with 5,000 platinum in a market where average gear for his level goes for double that. It's really frustrating.

There is nice anti-cheat systems for some of the FPS, like punkbuster.

But many games lacks anti-cheat system, or the anti-cheat system isn't good enough.

I remember when we did RAM hacking for getting aduka they day before it was released, we were somewhat succeful. (that was before they added the anti-cheat thing...)

I have no idea why it is fun with cheating, I usually try cheats once or twice in single player. Cheat in multiplayer is an sin.

And you feel more proud when you win without cheats.

Hang on a minute. You haven't given one example of how someone has cheated against you, and you say it happens that often?

One of my friends is a regular Counterstrike player and he is, in my opinion, extremely good.

He doesn't ceat at all, yet he gets accused of it on numerous servers because they think he's cheating.

The complaints are getting ridiculous. I don't even play Counterstrike, yet I've been put off by the ammount of n00bs that play it.

You have to admit that sometimes when people walk onto a server and headshot all players on the opposing team, sometimes they are that good.

I have given an example. That is SOCOM. Half the time, I run into Friendly Fire games and it is jam packed with either cheaters and/or team killers (which are WORSE than cheaters, actually). I've seen people run through walls and kill people from inside, kill people on both sides while being virtually invisible, and adding to their score while doing it (instead of hurting their score like it should), take repeated head shots without dying ONCE, get an impossible number of kills in a round/game of 12-256 roughly, hell, sometimes even faking their own death (as in getting back up after being dead).

I'm not saying ALL people with really high scores/stats are cheaters. Sometimes they really are that good, and sometimes they really aren't very good at all and needed a little "help" (catch my drift?). Often times, you can tell by their score in a game that they are playing with certain cheats/codes on, like infinite health, infinite ammo, no ban/vote off, and the like. When someone has a score of 256 in a game (preferably in a round), the other player is [i[obviously cheating, and believe me when I say it's definately happened before.

And Knuck, I'm sorry bro, but you just come in and look at me wrong. Well known fact that cheaters don't have many friends. Noone likes a cheater, and noone wants to be around one (preferably playing with one rather than just plain being around one). Cheaters are game-killers, runing the games we play for everyone around him. I'm sure if a cheater joined your game and started killing YOU and every other teammate every round, that you wouldn't much like him, now would you? It's more than just a blatant assumption. It's real logic that cheaters are never very popular online. You'll see what I mean when you start getting owned online by a "one biLlIon Gazillionz faffillionsf shabedelu-le-millionez" score-player just as I, and many, MANY others, did.*sigh* Cheaters never prosper.

I hate Punkbuster. It causes terrible lag and doesn't let me play at the same time as my brother because it doesn't allow duplicate CD keys.

You say people take multiple headshots and live? Most likely you're either missing or it's lagging.

On Urban Terror, my brother has gotten some insane score and I know for a fact that he doesn't cheat. He had something like 10 deaths and 120 kills. Everybody used to accuse him of cheating, but he doesn't, and there are people that are FAR better than him.

Yes, obviously.</sarcasm>

Okay, so I've never played SOCOM online, but I'm sure this all still applies. Never accuse anybody of cheating unless you have solid proof.

Since I am a pretty good Counter-Strike played I've had my fair share of cheating accusations. Now I only play on my clan server and a few other servers where people know who I am, so no problem with that anymore

And yes, cheaters are very annoying. And teamkillers even more so. Though as some other people have said, don't accuse people of cheating all the time. Hearing people say "omgomg a cheatar" every time they die gets very annoying after a while

Seph: You did not give one example of cheating in your original post, you only named a game.

Cheaters are stupid, though. But you can't do much about them. Nothing is cheatproof. Nothing at all.

Just stick to the servers you like and always have a friend on hand to kick the cheaters.

This is the reason I stopped playing Starcraft. I joined one game. They then loaded it up. Then when they were in the game, they said "Press Alt + X 2 times to see the whole map." Everyone else left. Why? Because when you do that, it exits Starcraft! Not everyone memorizes the hot keys!

Anyway, cheating is fun for some games, but not all games or online games. Like Seph2k4 said, GTA is a perfect example where cheats are fun. I would also use cheats in SSBM to play VS. on some target practice level. Other than that, cheating is wrong.

My brother also cheats a lot. He puts in his Codebreaker (or used to, he plays his X-Box a lot) into the Playstation, adds cheats, then puts in Final Fantasy 8. He claims to have beaten the game, but no. He just cheated.
