Now I've gotten a second hand Ipod but it's come with it's fair share of problems.. here goes.

1. It didn't come with any software, so I DL'd the latest version of Itunes from Apple's website (Itunes 6). However it is VERY slow to recognise the Ipod and I find it very hard to use! Any other programs that might be a bit faster and intuitive?

2. Alright, when it does eventually recognise the Ipod, it starts updating the track listing. All's well that ends well right? Wrong. ABout 10-15 tracks in, I get a "Cannot read from Elmo's Ipod, cannot write to or copy to the disk". It them refuses to send anything over until I "Eject" the Ipod, Close Itunes and open it again.

3. IAfter searching Google I came accross a program called "Ipod Wizard" which helps you "Hack" the Ipod and also check on the physical status of the Hard drive (Run scandisk on it) But this says there is no ipod attatched!
Help!

Oh dear.... things have gotten from bad to worse....

Right I found the "Ipod for windows" programme on Apple's website. Installed it and all seemed well. It asked if I wanted to update the firmware and I said "Yes".
It said that I should restore so that everyhthing will reset to factory settings, and I clicked that, but it then said "Firmware upgrande aborted - disc write error".
It now doesn't work at all, there's no menu screen, and when I connect it to the laptop it says that the Ipod needs to be formatted to be used on this PC. When I click "Update" it boots up the ipod update proggy and I'm back to square one. (I get the disc write error again). So is there anything I can do now, or have I got a nice looking paper weight?

EDIT: Problem solved - I just tried updating it on my desktop comp instead and it worked! Yaaay!!

I DO have a question though....

What other progs are available to put songs on the Ipod instead of Itunes?

1. Yep, iTunes sucks... it's nothing new. For Windows: I know of EphPod. For Unix-like OSes (BSD, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, etc), there's GTKPod (GUI) and GNUpod (CLI, but I think it's more powerful and quick).

2. Sounds like a bad hard disk

3. Attatch it? Oh, iTunes might be causing trouble too. Either uninstall it or find that weird setting to let the general OS use the iPod.

Edit: Might want to Check Here for a nice list of many non-Apple iPod software tools.
