The only thing that suprises me is that it didn't happen sooner. Even if the religious fanatics hadn't had a crying fit over their attempt to pack the courts with idealogues, she (by all accounts) would have faced a terrbily harsh confirmation hearing that would have put forth some really serious questions to underline her lack of experience. That said, I didn't actually even hear her personally speak on the subject, so I can't judge her qualifications other than what is provded in the way media speculation. So take what I said as you will.

I do know that Bill Frist himself actually called the President to tell him the Miers nomination was upsetting his constituants (read: the zealots who bullied bush into office with cries of fire and brimestone to begin with), which was probably the straw the broke the camel's back.

What is absolutely insane is Bush getting away with continually refusing to proivde the documents requested by Congress. (True in the case of Bolton many of the documents had seemed trivial, but it seemed to serve no purpose). The "I got re-elected; the people have spoken and have said that they want my campaign promises carried out and that my policies should be put into action" talk can only let you go so far in my own opinion. However I still can't tell if it was entirely a ruse or not... In my opinion, at the time Bush made those statements he still had intended Miers to actually go through the confirmation process, in which case he was serious about the documents, unless he had actually decided to give her signals to retire her nomination before he made those statements in which case he was just setting up his incredibly weak insinuation that Congress was pushing too far and infringing upon his so-called executive privelege (which -is not- just a get out of jail free card, imo ) by the requests.

I'm tired and I'm not reading that for errors so I can't even tell if what I said made sense.

This is great for Bush, if the comfirmation hearing had continued it would have made him look worse and worse. Now he gets to try again. The public has very short memory, in a few weeks no one will remember he tried to make someone who had never been a judge a supreme court justice. People are already starting to forget he made the former Judges and Stewards Commissioner for the International Arabian Horse Association head of FEMA.

Harriet Miers, you are a quitter. Not an acquitter, because only judges can acquit things. But you'll never be a judge... because you're a quitter.

xD I love that guy.

He's still in deep shit either way. His White House staff is falling to the toilet, and his approval rating is dropping as rapidly as ever. Good luck in that upcoming election, Republicans. If they managed to hold the majority still after this, it would probably only be due to voter fraud or something. They're killing themselves.

Actually his approval raiting rose 4 points in the last month, pitting it at 42.

With the attention span of this country, '06 is a long way away. We'll see how long this current CIA investigation and purjury trial take to get wrapped up and then make an assessment

Steven Colbert is hilarious, not quit Jon Stewart hilarious but still very funny. I guess its a different type of funny, Jon Stewart's all staight out jokes, while Steven Colbert's all parody.

Anyway, back when the Rebublicans were impeaching Clinton, and the general consensus among the public was that it was stupid waste of time, there was alot talk that it would hurt the Republicans come election time. Well we all know how that turned out.

The majority of America is still conservative, and the far right are known for their voting turnout when they feel their supporting a cause. So as long as he can provide a better known conservative nominee he'll be able push his support back up with the anti-gay, anti-stem cell research crowd who don't seem to care how bad the war, the economy, foreign relations, the budget, disaster management, or whether or not the White House staff is willing to commit treason as a form of political retaliation.

Of course if he can't turn things around with the far right by '06 elections, there won't be the same get out the vote itinitive among social conservatives, in which case the Democrats could actually pick up seats, and that would be real bad for the Republicans, because if the Democrats start to get some say in government, there may be an actual investigation into what the White House actually knew before the war, and I have a feeling it won't look good for them.

Well, seems that Bush didn't take too long to come up with his next candidate.

Samuel "Scalito" Alito. Leans heavily to the right. This isn't gonna be pretty... On the plus side, the confirmation hearings are going to be fun to watch.

Yeah there'll probably be a filibuster, it the only way the Democrats have any say in government anymore. Of course if the Replublicans have their way, they'll get rid of that too.

Eh heh. This'll be a battle. Before creating any stupidass comments, I'm going to wait to see what Mr. Arlen Specter has to say about the guy. Once I get that opinion, I'll be able to tell how much of a battle this'll be... for if EVERY Republican supported the guy, then a filibuster would be shot down. To think, the press is talking filibuster already, and NOTHING'S HAPPENED YET.

I believe it takes 60 votes to end a filibuster in the Senate, there are only 55 Republican Senators.

Well, really they can only fifibuster until there's a recess, then Bush will just appoint him anyway.
