Open Notepad and insert your HTML code, then save it as a HTML file by saving the file as "filename.extension", where "filename" is the name of the file and "extension" is the extension such as htm, html, shtml, etc. You would have to create multiple files for each page of the site. If you want to start from scratch, but you're not really knowledgable in HTML, I suggest you learn some HTML, and find docs by searching in Google, or your favorite search engine.

Little more detail maybe? First you need a webhost. If you only need something simple and don't mind ads you can get free ones like Geocities. Most free hosts suck though. Ad-free hosts can be pretty damn cheap if you're willing to pay. Also, your ISP probably provides some hosting space. Next, you need to either learn HTML or get an editor such as DreamWeaver. Using HTML is recommended as it's pretty simple, doesn't require any expensive tools (just Notepad/vi/whatever text editor your OS has will do), and gives you full control over the page design (plus from there you can move to more advanced things like PHP or ASP with little hassle), but if you have codeaphobia, an editor might be a good way to go. Some hosts also have template pages, but a lot of them suck. As far as hosting from your own computer: you can, but it means having a particularly fast connection and a static IP, and being connected to the Internet 24/7. Plus, running a server on the computer you use for everything else can cause a noticable performance hit if your page is particularly popular, and if you're running Windows, it's also a notable security risk. Plus, most ISPs don't allow it... easy enough to work around, but you won't want to get caught... |

Making websites is relatively easy, especially with tools like Microsoft Publisher or Pages for Mac. The problem is getting them online. Most site creators generate lots of files, and lots of free servers do not support mass-file uploading. I reccomend GeoCities if your new to website creating. It kind of sucks, but its good for some things. |

...with Microsoft Word of course. The Enterprise edition even has a 'convert to ASP, JSP and PHP' option in it!

Using a big fancy word processor like (especially) MS Word for programming and/or web design is like building a rocket to fly to the sun to make toast. |
