| Honestly, you don't. You take v1.92, add some things from v.1A2 and/or v1.A3, and use that. The 1.Xx series is pure crap. The code is a mess, 99% of it doesn't work, and the coders don't care. Even Acmlm refuses to touch anything after v1.92. THAT should tell you something. |

| I've got v1.A2 and it works fine... The only problem was the root variable, that's it. But once that's fixed, everything is cool... Still, I won't bother updating to v1.A3 or v1.B0... | |||

| I tried 1.A2 with the fixed $root. It was a piece of trash. Links pointing the wrong place. MySQL errors all over. The "admin panel" full of errors, bad links, and broken images. Versions post-1.92 are trash. (edited by Elric on 10-10-05 04:07 AM) |

| Funny how I'm admin at TWO boards using 1.A3, once the $root thing was fixed (*looks at Xeogred*), everything was fine. Stop saying something sucks because you didn't have any luck. By the way, I believe that Acmlm doesn't want to touch anything after v1.92 because he never did any work after that, and he doesn't want mess with something he doesn't know. Now, 1.B0 was "trash" because of the way it was tested. But now it's more or less alright. And saying to use v1.92 to anyone is a bad idea, since a lot won't even bother to fix the exploits, and then guess where they're going to cry? HERE. | (It's "take your hatred elsewhere", get it right) Tiem for some fun lists of what was wrong: 1.92: Security holes, most of which are fairly easy to fix. No edit poll support, no dealing with MySQL errors, since install.php works, last "true" AcmlmBoard 1.A3: (ironically) MORE security holes, admin panel (that is horribly, horribly coded), useless features no one cares about, editing polls 1.B0: New scheme system leading to several still-unfixed-but-often-pointed-out errors in old schemes, removal of window titles, removal of custom numgfx from threads (see above), crappy forum ban system, crappy softban system, horrible diciplinary tracker and "System" message implemtation, major rewrite to 'up'grade old functions (leading to new problems in unexpected places), halfassed conversion to UTF-8 that doesn't work properly, obsolete "Commons" (hi, my name is an attachment), several other broken things, many speed-downs due to sloppy code, new 'common' system that executes over 10 useless queries on every board page, several other errors regarding things as stupid as updating user URLs when viewing pages like _user.php, _level.php, and status,php, etc., etc. Based on this, I'm going with 1.92S (reduced security hole version). Anyone who picks one of the updated versions (1.A2 incl.) should seriously rethink what they're trading off for 'upgrades' |

| Typo on my part. And the only reason I say not to use 1.92 is because most people (read: except like 5~8 people) won't fix the holes (like the one with editprofile.php that everyone and their mom know about) then come here and cry because they got hacked. But in all honesty, I'd rather code my own board and not share it (make sure to not have SQL injection, everything else is a pain to find without the source). And I believe that having 1.92 is still more work (unless you take editpoll from the newer version. Then all is right) |

| I'd say someone should post a guide to fixing 1.92 for those who don't know about the problems with it, but it would probably, "fall in to the wrong hands", metaphorically speaking. So maybe someone should offer a patched up version to download, or just an archive of the files that need to be patched up all fixified. |
