Ok, I started this thread to descuss the inspiration of the ff games. You probably don't know what I mean, so let me give an example: Sephirof(f?) was from an ancient religion, a sephirof was a god that was split up into multiple people/parts. Only by recombining with these people could he become a god again. As I recall, golems were from the same religion. Hence most of the story of ff7.

As you may have noticed, throughout the ff games, there are numerous things taken from/inspired by religion and mythology. I thought we could have a thread in which we could point the various things out.

Go to it.

Well, I can't think of anything specifically now (even though almost all RPG's have some kind of connection in them), even though I haven't played the game myself, I hear Xenogears has a LOT of Religious structure behind it.

...Except you can't really relate religion to language. If Bio's the Greek word for Life, then that's all it is.

I'm positive there was a website or FAQ with all the mythological and religious references somewhere... I remember seeing it years ago.

There are several sites, FAQs, documents, lists and whatnots listing the origin of the various names used in the FF games.

For the first few games, the creators were pretty much just looking through their D&D books for stuff they could use, the religious and mythologic stuff didn't come until later.

Colleen, I wrote one such document many, many years ago. It's long since been amalgamated with others' efforts, but you can see a version of it here:
