I am currently programming my own game, from scratch. It will be Zelda 1-styled. Game development is very early, but I will show you some "tech demo" stuff.

I have got it where Link can walk around the screen, and words appear on the top. No more ROM hacking. Its now time to remove all limitations!

Wrong forum. Should be in Game Creation forum. Looks like it could go somewhere tho.

You're programming you're own game, eh? Sounds nice. It will probley be better when you implement other new things into it though. Looking forward to it.

Wow! If this is done right, you could really pull it off!
You should make it like Zelda 1 but with elements of Ocarina of Time.
Make it super cool, man!

Moving the thread back to Rom Hacking because it *is* a homebrew rom.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this... but PLEASE make every effort to make this a legitimate ROM (uses a real board/mapper, does all necessary startup prepwork, follows the strictest of rules, able to be played on the real system, etc, etc)

Of course I recommend Nintendulator for testing, as it's usually the most strict about such things.

And yeah, very cool =) good luck!

Thank you guys. I'm glad you're interested. I am hoping to make this game Zelda 1-sytled with extra stuff. For example, when you hold down select, Link can move faster. I might even make it so you have to get the Pegasus boots to do that! Also, how Zelda 1 has split screen when you enter an area, maybe I'll add cutscenes, where Link can talk to enemies or bosses. The possibilities are endless! Hopefully I'll have some more screenshots soon. If so, I will post them here.

Holding Select to run would be akward. Maybe hold A and B at the same time.

You're right about that if you are using the actual NES controller. I was thinking of using the keyboard when I came up with that idea. But, I have thought of an alternate idea. When you get the Pegasus Boots, you can press Select to toggle between normal walking and faster moving.

I don't have anything too signifcant to show, but I have added more sprites, and I'm starting to set up the overworld.

This is very bland at the moment. But, that will soon change as I add more stuff! Don't expect it to be completely like Zelda 1. I might change a lot!

What I have planned is that as soon as you start the game, you are in the ultimate showdown with Gannon. Yes, that's right. You will start out with 3 hearts, and Gannon will be in front of you. The area will be closed in, so you can't escape until you defeat him. Gannon won't be as powerful as he is at the end of Zelda 1, so you should be able to defeat him with little difficulty. This whole scenario may change in the final version, but right now thats what I'm going with.
