| Okay, I'm posting from my work laptop concerning my main computer. It has all my artwork, homebrew games, website stuff, everything. I may lose it all due to this stupid blue screen that pops up before I start. It says this... A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. REGISTRY_ERROR If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advenced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: ***STOP: 0x00000051 (0x00000001,0xE1EC8008,0x00882000,0x000001DC) Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance My problems... -I've already tried using Safe Mode, the damn thing still comes up. --I cannot get in my computer whatsoever to remove programs, more less, run a virus scan. -My last virus scan didn't detect anything the last time I was able to attempt at fixing this problem. -I don't know who my administrator is. Someone please give me a suggestion... this has gone on for about three days now and I haven't found any solutions yet. |

| It seems to be a problem with your registry, I think. Anyway, to answer you the administrator question, you are that. Well, have you tried plugging the HD into another computer and try to set it as Slave while the other one is running as Master? The Master one will start, but Windows should detect the Slave one, so you can copy the files from the Slave HD to the Master HD and the files are rescued, at least in 99% of those cases. |

| I still need to get a boot disk. That's been a real pain in the ass to obtain. I'll be out of commission on home projects until I get this problem fixed. | |||

| If you do not have another HD, then there is a way to re-install windows WITHOUT formatting your HD. You need to get a boot disk that can read your HD. If your HD is formatted as FAT32, then a Win98 Boot Disk is fine. Just navigate to your C drive and rename the following folders: rename DOCUME~1 OLDDOC rename WINDOWS OLDWIN This will hide your Documents and Settings Folder and Windows Folder from your Windows Installation. Thus, you can then reinstall windows without having to reformat and all your data is there. If your HD is formatted as FAT32, then you need to find an NTFS reader for DOS and add that to your Win98 boot disk. |

Could've just been a result of overzealous virus scanning. I think that stupid McAfee deleted some important files. I'm still trying to get the disk. Thanks though.  |

| You could also go to the Advanced Startup Options (you go to this area to go to Safe Mode) and chose Last Known Good Configuration. It restores the last good copy of HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet. The registry could be messed up there, but Last Known Good Config. only restores that key and nothing else of the registry. From Windows help file: "Choosing Last Known Good Configuration provides a way to recover from problems such as a newly added driver that may be incorrect for your hardware. It does not solve problems caused by corrupted or missing drivers or files." |
