It didn´t? Boo-fucking-hoo.

If he gets away with spamming, that should include everyone at the board, then.

Havoks that was uncalled for. It's fine to say that you don't like the concept, but don't call someone stupid for that.

Legion and Trapster, just don't start please.

I wouldn't be too surprised if certain games could use the GCN controller, considering I seen photos of the revolution with GCN ports on it. If it wasn't for it's backwards combatility, I would have a Gamecube in my room right now.

I tried clicking the link on the first page, and got a "This Page Could Not Be Found" error, but even so, Josh stopped by on Saturday, since he was heading to work, with the sole intent to tell me that Nintendo had released this information, and gave me a quick sketch in Paint Not the greatest thing of course, and according to him, it was the worst possible thing for Nintendo to do. In his exact words, he'd "rather be sitting on his duff with a controller, than actually having to move it to control the game".

I myself think it looks pretty neat I got to thinking about it later that night, and the thought of playing a Metroid or Zelda game (among others, of course) where you could actually move Samus's gun by moving the controller, as opposed to holding the R button and using the analog stick as in previous Metroid Prime games. As for Zelda, I don't know how possible it would be, but imagine using the controller to attack with Link's sword, or various other weapons, such as the bow and arrow. I know that may not be possible, given what was said in the "End of an Era for Zelda" thread, but it'd still be fun to play. After reading this page, I see they already used the Metroid idea, so I'm looking forward to seeing if they're going to make a Metroid Prime game that uses that control method exclusively. Not to say that Nintendo may not be working on something like that already, but it can't hurt to say

My brother doesn't think it looks so great, but still, he's the one that's been badgering me for quite a while now to get a Revolution when it comes out, because there'll be a Prince of Persia game made for it

The only thing I don't like about it is that it uses batteries. Of course, that's to be expected with something that's wireless. With luck, a power pack or some sort of rechargeable batteries will be released sometime after the console itself. Either way, I think this looks pretty neat, and not at all stupid. Of course, that's just a matter of opinion

BAH. *stabs the Firefox bookmark toolbar* Damn thing is set to ctrl+b, right next to ctrl+v. And you would think ctrl+w would close it, but noooo.

That being said, time to type out a big long list of possible ways to use the controller. AGAIN.

  • Sword/lightsaber.
  • Gun.
  • Fishing rod.
  • Baseball bat.
  • Hockey stick.
  • Handlebars.
  • Handle on a hang glider.
  • Control the character's arm, use A or the trigger to open and close his hand to pick stuff up. For more precision, strap 2 to your upper arms and hold 2 in your hands.
  • Control the entire character by strapping 2 to your legs and having 2 in your hands.
  • A big joystick like a helicopter steers with.
  • A pole; hold 2 at once and it's like holding 2 parts of the pole. Balance with it.
  • A phone. Attatch a speaker and microphone to the add-on port. Find some use for it.
  • Camera control. The controller moves the camera.
  • A music conducter's stick.
  • A ball. Make a throwing action and press a button at the point where you would release the ball.
  • Knife.
  • Stick; play fetch with a dog.
  • Shake the controller to shake up someone's e-beer or something.
  • Have the game auto-pause if you drop the controller (or it runs out of batteries; all wireless controllers should do this).
  • A flashlight.
  • A throttle. Like a gas pedal but in your hand. The further you tilt it the faster you go, maxed out when pointed right at the screen.
  • The controller could represent any given object in the game that you could pick up and move.
  • A paintbrush or spray can.
  • Big hedge clippers; one in each hand acts like the handles.
  • A magic wand. Wave it a certain way to cast a certain spell.
  • Climb a mountain. Hold 2 and stab at the air, and the character stabs at the rock and pulls himself up.
  • Hold in your hands and punch stuff in the game.
  • Virtual violin.
  • Paddles in a boat.
  • Virtual spoon.
  • Control a car by tilting it.
  • Pull it back and push a button to 'let go' to shoot an arrow.
  • Motion capture; make your own character movements.
  • Virtual razor. Shave in The Sims or something.

I don't think I even need to go into detail about all the possibilities of holding two at once. (For starters, you could work two of anything that only requires one controller. Imagine swordfighting with 2 swords, driving 2 cars at once, etc.) Because of their shape and lack of a cord, they could easily be strapped to a body part for even more control (seriously, 2 in your hands and 2 on your legs would pwn, or you could even strap the other 2 to your arms and hold the joystick attatchment in your hands). And I hope I needn't explain the potential for 'adult' games with a TV-remote-shaped, rumbling, one-handed controller.

For even more possibilities, you could combine 2 different single-controller ideas. Imagine a Zelda game where you could swing your sword with one hand and hold a shield or grab stuff with the other. Endless possibilities!

Before any other mod jumps in here, I'm letting this thread live until I get off work (10 PM my time, add some time to get home and get a shower; it's 1:27 PM now), then I'll make a decision.

If people cool off, it lives. If they do not, it does not.

The thread is actually going quite fine, it has four posts that are related to discussing the new Revolution controller, and until your post popped up, my reply was going to be strictly in regards to it. Perhaps you should note those last posts, it'd be retarded to lock this thread when it was actually getting back on topic. Anyway...

HyperHacker, wow, that is definitely a pretty long list of possibilities. My question, how would the game auto pause if the controller runs out of batteries? Would it be set up to detect when there was a loss of, ah I don't know the proper word here, signal, perhaps? That would definitely be pretty cool, I'd like it myself.

Well, I was asleep for a while, so I couldn't have commented sooner, Thayer. =/

As I said, I'm not a fan of the idea, but it could work and I'll give it a chance.

i didnt think i needed explanation but you're fucking stupid as hell because you suggested d-pad for MOVING and analog stick for AIMING when CLEARLY EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD already realized that the analog stick would be the one used for moving/strafing while the DIRECT POINTING SYSTEM which is the revolutionary part of the revolution would be used for aiming, making first person shooters have an intuitive feel to the gameplay. this was even how they made it for their metroid prime 2 demo that was adjusted for play using the new controller. you dont even need to read the descriptions of the demos to have realized that the DIRECT POINTING SYSTEM is essentially a light gun/motion sensor... in which case, if you didnt know that, why would you be excited about this controller?

"I just realised, this controller might be awesome for FPS games! "
stupid ass

scatterheart shouldnt even have bothered correcting you in the manner that he did, because you, mr loved-the-revolution-before-anyone-knew-what-it-was, should've known that you're a stupid ass

i dont recall but im sure you wanted to be part of the game industry, and i'll tell you right now, you would suck as a game designer

im just saying is all
