Spoiler:

I think the idea was you were supposed to think she won, and then she heard victory music, and she was like WTF is that, as if you controled her in the game and the characters heard the music. That is what I thought at first, anyways, and I laughed my ass off

Instead of praising it like everyone else on each page of this thread, I'm going to say it was probably a 5 out of 10 movie in my opinion. I seriously had to keep myself from losing interest / falling asleep, whatever.

I'm not going to say I was let down or anything, I've been pretty excited about this movie for a long time but it was just kind of one of those things "I had a feeling" was going to be "meh".

Sure, you can sit there and say the animation and fancy scenes were nice, but just like people will argue with videogames with wonderful graphics, it's not the graphics that count deep down inside. This movie had too many unanswered and random things going on, and the plot seemed to start from nowhere and go nowhere.

It just ... I'm just clueless what I should say it about. I just don't think it was all that special at all, and I don't plan on seeing it again.

Have at you.

I agree, for instance
Spoiler:
When all the heroes show up to fight the summoned monsters, who called them? I can understand Tifa, Cloud, and Vincent being there, afterall, we saw them before (but then again, why was Vincent in the woods in the first place when he rescued Cloud?). Also, why did they let Cloud fight by himself against Kadaj/Sephiroth? Seems like the situation was pretty dangerous, wouldn't it have been better to have gone an all-out frontal assault? This problem seems common in many series though letting the main character fight alone even when it'd be better to go at it as a group. And also, how did all the others just suddenly realize what was going on with Kadaj/Sephiroth? I can understand those who were fighting directly against Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo understanding the situation, but the ones who just showed up...?

That's just a few of many questions, I'm sure. =/

Well, I watched it a second time, but I still don't think it's as wonderful as so many people think it is.

I found it entertaining, sure, but.... really, it just didn't do it for me. Because I loved FFVII so much and so many of my friends who loved FFVII love it, I almost feel bad that I can't really like the movie too.

The fight scenes are fun to watch, but really this is one of those movies where you have to turn your brain off to enjoy it. Thinking about the movie spoils it.

I'd summarize it as being delightful eye candy, but it's definitely not something to nosh on and feel full.

Rando downloaded it. I'd never played all the way through FFVII, but I know about most of the major characters and the biggest spoiler in the plot, so I figured I'd watch the movie. Well, I wasn't feeling so well this afternoon and the beginning didn't grab my interest all that much, and I don't like subtitles when I'm sleepy (I prefer mindlessly listening in a language I understand), so I wound up passing out on the floor instead. I caught the very end, and I see why some of you mentioned not thinking about the movie too much.

Spoiler:
So Cloud dies and magically reappears in this puddle of water. Uh, me confuzzled. That was when somebody in the room told me that if your girlfriend controls the life force of the planet, she can basically make stuff like that happen. I'm still confuzzled.

I'll give it another shot when it comes out in the theaters. Before then, I guess I should read the FFVII plot guide.

Finally, a kindred spirit. I've never played through FF7 either and Hiryuu's advised me that... well... if I'm gonna watch this, I need to do that. :\ So hopefully I get around to that real soon.

I started a game of it a few years ago and just never felt like getting very far. I probably got distracted by something else. I generally don't have much patience for long games any more. In most cases, you have to put a lot of time into them in a fairly short span of weeks (otherwise you forget what you were doing). After a certain point, time put into games feels like a chore. I don't remember being grabbed by FFVII when I played it, so I doubt I'd get anywhere if I tried to go through it now. Thus, it's much faster and easier for me to read a guide.

It's strange...I never thought I would become a Casual Gamer.

I stopped playing FFVII a while ago. I don´t know why. I want all the secrets from where I am right now and forward. I´m only on the beginning of the second disc. I´m at lvl 70 with all characters.

This´ll sure be any interesting movie.

Well one reason why I like the film so much is that FFVII formed an integral part of my life - I owe that game so much, it introduced me to the first (and to date only) love of my life and has also introduced me to so many friends. Without FFVII I wouldn't be on this board right now either.

if you're really familiar with the plot (and I don't want to blow my own trumpet, but as I've spent countless hours debating the plot, I know it pretty damn well). then a lot of it does make sense, there's a lot of allusions to things only hinted at in the plot of the game, and so it does make sense, on that level. However, it's not a detailed chararcter study, it's just an excuse for Cloud to kick arse again As someone used to looking for plot holes, I remember balking at the fact that Kadaj didn't use a RED materia when he was supposed to - He used a Green one instead. Curse my fussy nature.

Trapster - Level 70! BLimey, you're going to find the rest of the game a piece of cake, apart from the optional bosses - you need to be at level 99 for those. Get Kinghts of the Round and you really are sorted for the remainder of the game.

Alrighty Answers -

Rydain (Only read this if you don't want to find out during the game)-
Spoiler:
The lifestream is a force that flows through the planet, like an underground stream, It's somewhere you go when you die - your life force is returned to the planet, so everything goes in circles basically. Cloud is returned to the planet, but Aeris intervenes and sends him back - possibly as payback for ridding the world of Jenova/Sephiroth. The reason he ends up in the church is that there is a Lifestream spring there (We see it earlier in the film), and it's why flowers grow in the slums

Spoiler:
One winged Angel. This is a special version of that song recorded by the "Black Mages" for the film, and it's based on the Orchestral version which is on the FFVII Reuinion Tracks CD

Spoiler:
It's possible that they tried to call Cloud on his phone and kept getting "This is unavailable" as his Phone is underwater, so they decided to go to Midgar/Edge to se what was up and arrived slap bang in the middle of Bahamut's attack. There's also enough time for Tifa to ring them whilst Cloud is at the forgotten city. As for why the left him to fight alone - perhap;s they realised that this was a fight he must win alone, so to excorcise his demons.

Elmo -- yeah Kadaj's use of Materia was something I picked up on too.

I was wondering what magic spell that fancy *green* materia in his arm was going to do.... and the results didn't match up.

Hmm but then...
Spoiler:
Why does Tifa seem so surprised when they show up at first? I think that kills the second possibility. The first one is an idea, but really this should have been answered in the movie itself, don't you agree? As for exorcising his demons, personal drama versus ensuring safety of the world, where's the priority here?
I think you've hit the nail on the hammer by describing it as "an excuse for Cloud to kick arse again".

Yes I saw it in english subtitles. Althought the subtitles are pretty fast, I tried to read as fast as I can. I love the battle scenes, they were great. There was not much of a storyline, but it was great.
