This hack is yet to be made... I'm just asking if the following is a good idea.

-2 Roms for the game, one the past and one the future.
-Beating a 'Teleporter' level will save your game so you can travel to the past/future
-Beating a different save level will pretty much send you nowhere if you switch the rom.
-To switch you change the save game name
-Idea has not yet been used as far as i know.

Plz comment on this idea.

Also note, that you can use it too

Wait... A hack... ...split up in two roms... ...where you rename the savefile to transfer data between the two roms...

That's just stupid...

Sounds like yet another hack that uses smw3 and yi graphics WAY too much. I can see it now... it'll look like the mutant child of GBA, and be very predictable beyond all reason!!!

I'd rather rip from the GBA version of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of time", and make a hack with that. Maybe a POPSOT remake with Mario?

LOL, there goes Small hacker.. off to make one himself
Obviouly with his response its a good idea. *Pats self on back*

The story will begin with:

"Our story begins when Mario stumbles upon an army of bowsers men coming from a pipe..."

So in other words, you will fight bowser as the 1st AND last boss

The game starts in the "PAST" rom...
If you try to start in the "FUTURE rom, you will be in a Old folk home... LOL

Past--before bowser takes over the MK
Future--After bowser " " " "

Sence you can transfer after beating some save places you shouldnt warp from... you might stumble on something good

Hmm.... and I thought I was the only one doing a hack based on using two ROMs. The title, pardon the expression... sounds almost Yu-Gi-Oh like...

If this idea works... I'd be glad to test it out...... sort of...

I do . . I do like that idea. But it sounds a bit tricky. The ROMs have to know exactly what to do. Like if you were to start the future ROM first, you would end up in an old folks home (as you say) but if you were to start it up after you did some events in the past ROM it would be different. And what would happen if you start the past ROM when you're supposed to be on the future ROM?

It seems like a good idea, but to someone like me, it seems advanced.

I had a similar idea. In the future, I will make "Mario´s Time Machine 2!", but, your idea is very similar to mine .

The game doesn't have to end after you beat Bowser. Disabling the princess dropping out is the hard part.

And I've had an idea very similar to this, and I'm trying to put it into effect.

if u do make this game it might be a good idea to include somekind of a launcher program if possible. have it so u choose the past or future rom from it, then it could rename and open the emulator itself. otherwise it would be annoying renaming the save file over and over again.

Hmm...
SoNotNormal: Simple, the starting point in the past rom wont be a save point.
DylanYoshi: I'll change it so you warp to another room just before the boss room. The room will have a speaker box saying some quary about changeing time blah blah blah.'

And then to all who think it will bve difficult: I make the OW in the past rom 1st. then copy the rom and change the name of the copy and edit the OW so the colors are more evil empireish and so cirtain events need to be active for different things.

I thought this up about a year ago, an event changed in one rom will also change it in another rom if the save file's name is changed

And keep in mind that i still have to finish making SZW!

You change Iggy to look like Bowser when he was a kid. Mario pushes him into a lava pit. 20 years later, Bowser, having just barely survived, is back for his revenge!

Feel free to use that one.

Well, although my idea is similar, it is different enough so that you don't have to change anything.

And as for my idea, I'm not spoiling it to anyone until my hack is complete. Heck, I may not spoil it until a long time AFTER my hack is complete.

And now for more comments, I'll be looking forward to this. Its kind of like that Journey Man game, or Mist, or Riven (whatever its called), where you have to swap the CD-ROMs in order to play. Its going to make for interesting game play.

Hmm...do you think it may interfere with other ROMs in that folder?

Good idea... but i was planing on having mario entering some time portal(bowser castle BACKdoor) sending him to the future where Bowser ruled the Earth and you had to go through a series of events before you could beat bowser(front door)

Doesn't that means Bowser will NOT be the first boss?
EDIT: Maybe he means bowser will be the only boss.

It should be fine. Just because you rename a file shouldn't affect anything else.

Keep in mind that the save file also stores the current overworld layout (the tiles at least) so you may be in for more than you can handle.

Don't quote me on that, though, I may be forgetting exactly how the save file is set up.

You could make a vb script that does all the work, so it could start the rom and when you get to the save area it automatically turns off the emulator, renames the save file, and starts up the second rom. It would make it really convenient.
