Bands I dig that've done it:
Coil, The The, The Birthday Party, Pet Shop Boys, The Cure, Einstuerzende Neubauten, Swans, Chemlab, David Bowie, Gary Numan, Acid Bath, Black Sabbath, At the Gates, Revolting Cocks, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult (I actually don't like them much, but they've done nice-sounding remasters)

Bands I dig that oughta:
Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, The Beatles, Skinny Puppy, Foetus, PIG, Mr. Bungle, Prince, My Bloody Valentine, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Demilich, Emperor

What do you mean by ''remastering'' ?

a- The band replay an entire CD with today's sound ?
b- Or they just edit the old record with today's technology ?

a- Megadeth did that for almost all of their albums.
b- Right now on the top of my head, Pink Floyd did that. I'm listening to The Wall, not bad at all. The sound quality I mean.

More of choice B. Going back to the mastertape and making a better CD out of it. Most CDs mastered in the '80s don't sound too good. The volume levels are all wacky and quiet, and clarity can often be bad.

When so-called CD remasters include altered sounds/music, however, I do not approve.

Well, for me, Megadeth - Rust In Peace remastered <3<3<3, but it's more of A.

Some bands do great remasters, some don't.

I always though that Pink Floyd remastered albums were awesome. The Wall, Dark Side Of The Moon, Echoes, I just love 'em.
