I'm putting the finishing touches on my editor and it will be ready for beta testing this weekend, so I am taking applications now for beta testers. In the spirit of peter_ac, here are the criteria:

I want people who have experience in ROM hacking (even if only using other editors); I want people who have some experience in SMB3; and knowing programming is a plus. I expect you to have a copy of the SMB3 ROM.

Here is how I'll do it:

By Sunday night (or earlier depending if there is a dearth of applicants coming about late), please submit your application by replying to this thread and post why you think you should be able to beta test this. By Monday morning, I will post the user names of the dozen people who won the application process and will send y'all copies of the editor along with documentation on it. The Beta testing will last 3 days until Wednesday evening when I will work on the release of the ROM. Beta testers will each post their results of the testing on this thread.

For all others, when I get home tonight from work I will post screenshots of the program. If you have any questions, post them here in this thread.

K, y'all? Accepting applications!

Not to sound conceited but do I really need to go on how I should beta test this?

What, what do you mean? Do you mean like what features I'm asking you to test? I thought that generally people would each do individual features and point things out that they see as erroneous or clumsy.

Is that what you were saying?

I think that was his way of saying "I want to test it, and given my experience, I expect to get picked".

As for me? Not enough time, but I do look forward to the full release.

Sorry for the delay; I tried posting the images, but the board seemed to have gone down.

Anyway,

Roneo Strife,
You won't have to code anything.

captain Qball,
Thanks!

DahrkDaiz,
I think I understand now. Yes, your presence on the board speaks for itself.

The coding is now done. I've done my own test, and it went quite well. I made a world 1 hack exclusively in my program, covering all aspects, and it works. Now we'll see what issues the beta testers catch.

And now the images. Please click each link to view them:

http://www.freewebs.com/beneficii/tiles.png

EDIT: Unfortunately, you'll have to right-click on the links and save as to view them.

EDIT 2: Hmmm, perhaps somebody could host them? I don't have time to set up any more accounts today; I have to leave in a few minutes to go to work.

Rip The Jacker,

Thank you for following up my request! By any chance you would want to join up?

Roneo Strife,

Sorry it hasn't been released to the general public yet. You may partake in the beta testing though which should start around this weekend.

This looks very promising. I wish I could help with beta testing this wonderful, little machine, but I have way too much schoolwork and other projects going on nowadays... I'll at least look forward to the public release. Finally, I'll be able to create any kind of an overworld without any problems. Good work!

I hope the beta testing doesn't take too long. I've been testing this out myself as we speak; the beta testers are for catching things that I might have missed.

I plan to have a public release on Wednesday, just so you know.

I would like to apply to beta test this program.

I have experience in hacking Super Mario Bros. 3, using all currently available level editors and some minor hex editing. Although I have not released any hacks as of yet, I enjoy designing levels for several games, especially SMB3 levels. I have some programming knowledge, as well: I have taught myself QBasic and some C++.

I look forward to the release of this program, and I hope you will consider me as a beta tester. I would enjoy helping to make this program as good as it can possibly get.

Sincerely,

Kamek77

The following have been accepted for the beta testing (in the order they signed up):

DahrkDaiz
Roneo Strife
Kamek77

(end of list)

Others may still sign up until Sunday night, but the ones already selected can soon start their beta testing. When I finish writing the documentation tonight for the program, I'll send by Acmlm's Board PM a link to the zip file containing the program, the documentation, and 2 IPS files for an ASM patch. Thank you y'all!

Also, if people are willing to host the public release of this program, please reply to this thread.

Thanks!

Well, I can host it. Someone else might be better for it (not the greatest server in existence by any stretch), but if no one else volunteers...

Oh, and despite what the source code for my layout may leave you to believe, it's not my geocities account.

I gotta sit out on the beta test due to other involvements, though.

Okay thank you! I'll probably want to have multiple hosters; and I'll want to put it on Zophar's, Acmlm's, etc. Once I get the release, I'll submit it to those sites.

I'll contact you via PM on Tuesday or so, OK?

Works for me.

And it's good to have multiple hosts; as I said, mine's not always reliable.

I can't beta test, but I can gice you a suggestion. Can you make it smas compatible. I found the offsets when toying around with smb3 workshop. If you want me to post them then say the magic word. (NOW)

That sounds good; how much did you find? You can go ahead and post them; though in another thread if you don't mind; I wanna keep this thread about the release of my program.

Making it SMAS compatible I would think would almost require rewriting a lot of the code, since it was designed to work with the NES's CHR format, but it's something that I can probably try in the next months.
