The simple trailer seen on Adult Swim for this series (or the movie) has really compelled me to check out this anime. Simply put, it just looked really good.

So yeah, I know I can just give it a google or check it out at the animenewsnetwork, but I thought I'd just get user based opinions here.

What exactly is the story / plot about?
Are the movie and the series both very good?
And from what I saw, there were Mech's ... and swords and stuff, so is it set in kind of a hybird setting?

So yeah, I'm basically just asking you guys if I should just simply check this anime out, because it really looked good, and from what I've heard in the past, it is.

(It kind of reminded me of Lodoss War, a bit)

It's a rather old series, but still good. I'll give you an intro in a nutshell, not to ruin the story. During a time trial(100m dash), a Knight(Van) and a Dragon appear infront of the runner(Hitomi). After vanquishing the Dragon, both Van and Hitomi are returned to Van's world(Gaea). During the coronation ceremony, Falania is attacked, forcing Van to flee his Kingdom. They gear up with the Knight Allen and become a team. Trying to Destroy the evil that caused Falania's end. With Hitomi's visions, Allen's swordskills and Van's Guymelef(Escaflowne), it makes a pretty interesting series.

There are only 26 episodes, with balances out to 5.66GB. Not hard to download at all.

I didn't look into the movie.

Youve come to right place my friend. Ive seen the movie and the entire series and let me tell you its awesome. ill try and explain the story without spoiling anything...

Ok the Movie for this series isnt like usual Anime movies which are side storys, this movie is kind of a retelling the entire series compacted into the size of a movie. I really liked it, but the series is just better in the sense that that it has more of everything. I say you should go ahead and watch the movie Sat, and then DL the series, but be warned that it will take away from some of the suprises the Series delivers. Also there are many variations between the two so although the movie and series are very similar there are many difference and varations. For example the male lead Van is pratically psychotic in the movie and hes got some strange abilities as well that never appear in the series.

As for the story, for both the anime and movie it centers mainly around Hotmi and Prince Van (pronounced Vahn). Hitmoi is from modern day Tokyo, the reasons for her being transported to Gaia (Vans World) differ between the series and the movie, but it has alot to do with a pendant she wears around her neck in both (I wont say any more about that).

Van is the prince of a kingdom in Gaia abd "pilot" of the Escaflowne. Which literally a giant suit of armor. Unlike a mech the Escaflowme is not powered by any real Tech, in fact it runs off Vans blood. Due to his heritage Vans veins flow with the blood of dragons and that powers the Escaflowne. Also the suits fighting abilities are only an extension of the "pilot" so when Van is inside he is literally moving is body and the suit is mimicking him. Sort of a perfect Sync.

The plot for both without giving too much away deals with the relationship between Van and his brother and Hotomis search for a way back to her world.

I LOVE the music for this series, mostly an orchestral score with gregorian style chants here and there. The Escaflowne theme is one of my favorite chants of all time.

I guess thats all you really need to know, if your wondering about anything else just ask. Id be happy to answer any question. I know my Escaflowne pretty well.

Aha. Escaflowne. Is that coming now too? I watched Vision of Escaflowne (I believe that's what it's called) at a friend's and he wouldn't quit fast forwarding through all the "boring" parts, so I saw some fight scenes, etc., so I can't really say that I really saw it. Then again, same friend did the same thing when we watched Matrix: Reloaded.

Didn't FOX have this already? We had this several years ago if I'm not mistaken.

Although, I'm pretty sure it was cut to death and I know this is the movie coming this next week...but I still know of a few IRL friends that would die to see the whole series uncut.

I might just have to get more CDs for this if it's around 6 gigs.

Yeah this series was aired on Fox a few years ago. Then they took it off before they even finished airing the series.

I remember watching it on Fox a long time ago. Wasn't it around 99-00? Anyway, I thought it was called Vision of Escaflowne or something. I don't have a super recollection of it, but I do remember liking it very much when it was on so I'll have to watch it again.

Just my 2 cents I think the movie sucked. It was good animation but it just made no sense, even watching the series it barly held on.

I have to watch it uncut then, that'd be way better than seeing it on FOX before. I think I did hear something about it and I always get confused with the times .

I guess I could record the movie for later..so its after the series I'm guessing..?

It's basically a re-telling of thew series that changes things and sucks. If I had watched the movie first I never would have watched the series, and the series is good. Again, just my 2 cents, but I know quite a few who agree with me.

The movie made me laugh the entire way through. It was confusing, but I loved the insanity of it.

Well from what I saw of the movie, it seemed like it had a cool concept, just a little far fetched and 'weird' (like all of a sudden, the girl appears in a whole new world).

Then again, I only saw about a 1/4th of the movie. Waking up at 6:00 AM that day, then going in to work an 11 hour shift, and then trying to stay up until 1:00 AM to watch a movie, just wasn't possible.

I honestly only saw like, 30 minutes of the movie.

I was seriously tired.

Is it worth picking up though?
