Jerry Rice, who made the Denver Broncos roster over the weekend, has retired from the NFL. Rice currently holds many records: 208 touchdowns total, 197 via the throw. 22,895 receiving yards, 1549 receptions, 274 consecutive games with a catch. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This comes 7 months after the retirement of Emmitt Smith. I can most positively say, I know who's going in first ballot for the class of 2010. (edited by Lenophis on 09-05-05 11:22 PM) |

A couple of years overdue, but we will NEVER see anyone like him at that position again. It's that simple.

yeah, since all the top rated receivers have attitude problems--Jerry Rice never had such a problem. It was cool watching him set records as I was growing up. I remember watching him break Art Monk's all time receiving TD record and a few other records. I do agree this move was long over due but that tells you the heart he had |

Allegedly, he was STILL burning DB's during practice. Sure, not with speed (he never was a speed guy, seeing as he ran a 4.6 40 at the combine back in the day) but with routes. Sure, he might not be the GREATEST any more (considering active WR's... and off-topic, holy shit this was a deja vu dream), but if he wanted, he should be a WR coach.

Originally posted by drjayphd I know some team up in Seattle could use a coach like him. But you'd think with him playing as a Seahawk they would've learned something... And more news, the 49'ers will not cut a player from the roster to make room for Rice so he can officially retire as a 49'er. Since he retired after the final cut-down day, he's basically shit out of luck. I was watching JRiB, ATH, and PTI today, and someone said that the NFL could waive that rule for special cases. Won't matter if they do or don't. He is, was, and always will be a 49'er. |

i'm not sure how the NFL waiver policy works--otherwise, i'm sure this would have been done... |
