This was originally posted by Thayer in this thread, but it's better if it gets a new thread.
"I have no problem with a return to bidding, perhaps this could be continued in a separate thread. I am only curious as to how donations will be handled, as I think you should be as well, considering if you're going turn the profits from the auction over to them, then you should be aware as to how the money is going to be done. I find it surprising that while donations were requested, no other real information was given as to the situation, and while I am aware of the cause and need for money, I am a bit confused that the staff has not been more open to explaining these details to the board, in particular where the money will go. So resume bidding, fellow Acmlmers, I guess."

Read the full thread to understand better. I think Thayer has some valid questions, and I'm sure more people would be interesting in getting them answered.

Well, some things I'd like to know, and I hope that somebody will be able to enlighten me.

I'd like to know if there is any plan in place for people who wish to donate, or participate in the Art Auction, who DON'T have credit cards (and if not, could one be established)?

Obviously, a lot of the users here can't/won't have access to credit cards -- in fact I'd say a majority -- so I think it's certainly in our best interests to try to come up with a way of accomodating those users who wish to find alternate ways of donating.

I'm not sure, but aren't there money transfer services? Would one of these perhaps be worth investigating?

I'm not positive, but I was under the impression that users who are under 18 in the States won't be able to donate.

I'm not sure either. I know when I was at the FFVII Citadel, we had donators under 18, but they mailed me the cash.. (and I then put it on my debit card and then used the newly cashed-up debit VISA card to pay the hosting fees).

However, one problem with that is that postage does take a little while, and also requires people to remember to actually... well.. *post* things And another downside was the fact that the bank charges to change the currency.

On the bright side, I did get to look at some cool lookin' foreign money.

Around 500 members or so are over 18. Rest is either younger or hadn't defined their age in their profile.

Postage is the easiest way for people who can't use credit card through paypal. It's a common payment amongst artists too apparently, althought it does take some time.

I'm old enough to have a credit card, but we're going to use a offer that get's me a credit card for free but it would require a "students card". Which I hadn't got yet...

And since banks take a fee I probably either convert the money myself (which may be be little hard to do around where I live) or pay little extra to cover the convert fees. For some reason i'm able to withdraw money in both Euro and SEK. So incase Euro is cheaper to convert over there then... that's good.

If someone's under 18, I'd suggest using a money order. They only cost $2-3 extra and it's a hell of a lot safer than sending cash in an envelope.

Hmm, why not send the money to the person who will be paying the server bill? It'd cut down on unnecessary postage and the possibility of getting lost in the mail. Unless you plan on wiring it.

I don't really think they want a bunch of random checks and bills being sent to them, do you? It'd be better if it were all put together beforehand.. unless Mouse were to agree to something..

Hm, I was just trying to suggest a possible way to streamline the process, hehe, but it seems perhaps it wouldn't be so great afterall.

Well, someone is going to be recieving a lot of checks no matter how it's set up. (I hope. ) It may as well be the person who pays the bills.

So, a update..

We are switching to a cheaper server.. $40/mo. It will be dedicated just to this board.

Well, I already have received $47 in donations so the first month is covered. The auction and future donations will go into a paypal pot that will continue to pay just for the machine

For those of you who don't know, and my be wondering who MouseJstr is, that would be Josh, the person who pays the bills. He's a good man. *nods*

Indeed, it is not Emuz or ||bass who does that, despite what some people seem to have thought in the past.
