Nah, FF1 never required any levelling to get through. Just kill all the non-scary stuff (Stuff that can poison, stuff that can stone, stuff with instant-kill attacks you can't block, large groups of things that can stun, large groups of multitargetting spellcasters and things that hit hard, ect.) you run into, and you'll be fine. FF1 is more about killing what you can handle than levelling like crazy and killing everything. | |||

As I said earlier, DoS is a horribly butchered version of the original. The dumbed down difficulity level, the forced overlevelling and the entire hold-A-to-beat-game system is exactly why I don't like that game. In the original, you had spell charges, not MP. You had a certain number of times you could use spells from a certain level, and there was no other way to replenish charges other than resting. You couldn't run around throwing multi-targetting spells at everyone and their dog, and healing was very limited. No auto-aim system either. You attacked what you chose to attack, no matter whether it was still alive or not. But it was fun, dammit, unlike DoS. |

Originally posted by Private Adamantand due to the fact that magic lacked power to begin with, the fact that you could barely use it anyway made a Black Mage a complete waste. Hell, a Red Mage could ALSO cover most of your White Magic needs. But then, I could point out quite a few problems with DoS, too... too much MP being one of them. |

Yes, for it's usually the appearance and special effects that attract the players. People often forget the first two words of the acronym. Western RPGs namely have kept it real and have more of a storytelling thing with their games. That's what D&D comes across to me as. A story. |
