well, from what I've heard, Canada has said "If you need our help, just ask"

not much more than that.... otherwise I've heard nothing.... but it is Canada.... the news bias is pretty bad up here

I don't quite have the time to dredge up a link right now Leg, but I remember vividly today one of the student papers having an article quoted from an Argentinian newspaper regarding this event. I think it was a Red Tory paper, but I can't be sure.

This may be helpful Legion.

I'm not surprised on the response. Countries have been sending help like this before, like when that tsunami hit Thailand. (Which is the worst natural disaster that hit the Swedish population ever. Due to the amount of Swedish tourists down there :/)

Let's also not forget the recent flooding in India where hundreds of thousands of people died. And of course, disease spread. And more recently, the encephalitis outbreak in the Utter Pradesh region. Don't compare it to the ones over here, because it simply doesn't match up.

Not all of the people who remained in the city were the stubborn ones. There were those trapped there by a lack of transportation, or by medical problems.

As for the actual topic at hand, I've heard contradictory reports. It's possible the concern is pride, or possibly that it's dangerous to try to take wealth out of nations poorer than yourselves.

Nah, but the stubborn ones are the ones that just don't make sense. What do they hope to hang on to? The ruins of a house that is now merely floading debris in the Gulf of Mexico or the bowl of water that New Orleans has become? Their few remaining belongings that they seem to feel are more important than their lives? Really, it simply doesn't make sense. =/

Leg, (without having read Kitten Yiffer's link, as it's late), I believe that while aid hasn't been refused, it also hasn't been accepted yet. Or that's what I remember reading in the newspaper, which could've been wrong, but...

Let's also not forget global warming; especially the lesser known thawing of Siberia and melting of the Ganges' glaciers. Both within the century.
