MeDIndia :: http://www.medindia.net/news/view_news_main.asp?x=4749

These are at least two news articles I could find on this, after I noticed a blurb about it in today's Washington Post Science section. How do you all feel? Let's get some discussion and voting going on...

I'll provide my feelings later on in the thread.

I think that there are too many factors. One study can't quite compile something like that. Multiple studies though paint a bigger picture.

I somewhat agree, I think this is possible, but I'd need to see the study myself. I have difficulty saying that I think this is true or untrue, and I feel I should have made a "Not sure" option in my poll.

The first one..I don't want to register for. For the second article, they need to conduct more than one study and more teenagers. People do it in general though. Maybe they just wanted to impress their friends..and that's why it increases?

Honestly, I would have to say yes.

A lot of the time, guys are just driving, and they get distracted by the other guys, doing... Well, guy stuff.

If there's a guy driving with his girlfriend in the cars, I would assume that he's going to at least exercise a little more caution. Of course, the more people there are, the more of a chance there will be that there'll be a distraction, so eventually it'll be offset.

Ack, Bella, I'm sorry, when I initially posted these articles, that was available without a registration. I've removed the link now. I honestly don't know, I know plenty of my friends who drive much better if anyone is a passenger with them (regardless of gender).

I agree with that article. But then again..people are different because with both genders in one car a guy still can be reckless even if it's with his girlfriend and friends. With all males I could see them gettin' off on going at high speeds and what not.

I was about to post what his article said. Men are, sorry guys (heck, I am a guy so... ha) but we are the morons on the road.

I'm surprised no one has made a reference to same sex intercourse.

I don't understand the "same sex" part of this.

Both male and female teenage drivers were most likely to drive faster than the general traffic and to allow shorter headways if there was a male teenage passenger in the car. In fact, when a male passenger was in the vehicle, a quarter of teenage drivers exceeded the speed limit by at least 15 miles an hour.

Looks like they're targeting males. Which I do not believe is right, because females speed just as much. I don't think gender plays any part in this situation.
What law are they going to pass? Teenagers can't drive with males in the car? Come on.

Males are almost always targeted in regards to this type of thing. Apparently they must pay more for their insurance as well since they are supposedly a greater danger on the road.

Unless you live in a fucked up place, where if you have $35000, you don't have to get insurance.
Personally, I tend to speed all the time. Never over the speed limit, though.

Strangely, when I was driving on I-40 in Memphis today, I went to the left lane having to pass all sorts of cars, and I WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT! That's like, whoa!

I was going the speed limit and I was the fastest car on the freeway.
