Does anyone know what the offset is for the level icons in Yoshi's Island? Like, how 1-1 is a picture of a shy guy, 1-2 is a chomp, 1-3 is the cave, 1-4 is Burt, etc.
This would be much appreciated if anyone knew. Thanks

Use Ycompress to decompress most of the graphics.
I usually just dump them into one file.

I'm in the midst of making a Ycompress front end (right before you posted ).

Place Ycompress in the same directory as Yfront.
Dump the graphics.
Edit the graphics.
Recompress the graphics.

here's a beta of it:
http://board.acmlm.org/commons/file.php?id=51&page=0#303894

The front end isn't neccisary though, just read the Ycompress readme for it's usage.

Ha ha

For some reason I keep TilEd 2002 v.064 build 2600 around, and use it occasionally.
I'm not sure why exactly.

Hmm, so all I have to do is decompress the graphics, move them around to my liking, and then they'll just appear like that on the overworld?

EDIT: The problem I'm having is the same one in the picture - can't type squat into the window without it closing. Any way to do this right?

I believe you are treating YCompress like a GUI application and opening it by double-clicking it. That's not the way to do it. You have to open up a command prompt, go to the YCompress directory, then supply the correct arguments.

Or, download Chickenlumps frontend there.

Yeah, I tried opening it through a command prompt, but I can't, because Ycompress is in Documents and Settings, yet all the prompt will read is Documents. And everything else I've tried typing doesn't work.

Bah, every time I go to open it, it says it's missing a .DLL file, but I have the DLL file right there in the same folder as it.

File is MMSTDFMT. dll, but it's right in the folder with Yfront and Ycompress, so. . . yeah . .

That file... doesn't seem to exist on my hard drive.
It appears Visual Studio related though, it should not be neccisary to have that to run my front end. I've updated my front end, fixed a few visual bugs and some other oddities. Same link as above.

Yeah, once again, when I double click on it, it just says "You need to have the file MMSTDFMT.dll installed on your hard drive" but it already is.

Does Yfront just open Ycompress? Like, what exactly does it do? If I don't need it to run Ycompress, I can surely figure something out within the program.

When you have a space in the filename, you should take the first six letters in the directory name, and stick a ~1 (or maybe even 2 if you have many similarly named directories).

Yes, the frontend isn't needed at all, just read the readme that comes with ycompress.
Everyone seems to have trouble with command line utilities, but I'm sure you'll get it.

Yeah, that problem I just fixed, but with one problem always comes another, and it can't read my ROM. I type in ycompress 0 Yoshi.smc ALLGFX.bin but it just says Unable to open ROM. ANyone ever encountered this problem before?

BTW, the ROM is in the same folder as Ycompress, so there shouldn't be any problems there.

/This is a graphics decompression/recompression program for SMW2 :
/Yoshi's Island (SNES). It supports the US ROM version 1.0 or 1.1,
/with a standard 0x200 byte copier header.

Make sure your rom is headered, and the version listed above. Make sure your ROM isn't marked as 'read only' and no other program has it open.

Yup. Made sure of all of those.

Version 1.0 (use it in EggVine)
Headered ROM
Not "Read Only"
And No other program had it open.

I wonder what could be wrong. . . oh well, if I can't edit the graphics, it's not the end of the world - GoYo didn't and his turned out great.

Use quotes, like cd "C:\Documents And Settings\blah blah". That tells it to treat the entire string as one parameter. You can do that with just about any program.
