I turn it into excitement and perform some kind of high-risk manuever. Hense the many broken bones (if you've read the "Battle Scars" thread).

And by the way, I'm not one to really fear tests. All my life I havn't been able to study (it's odd, but if I do, I end up getting nervous) so I end up just winging it and learning the subject the first time. Kinda like a memory "bank."

And yes, "The only thing to fear is fear itself," quote most definitely makes sense. Fear is something we don't like, right? That means that we don't like being fearful. So, we're afraid of being afraid.

I usually just stuff em up, deal with them, suck up the situation and keep on plugging.

Ares brings up a good point, though, Vyper; what about spiders?

I hate spiders. They're the exception.

Spiders suck but you live with them .

I haven't had a fear or not really even a nervousness for tests. I did in a way today since we have no base for our grades, no collection of homework but I did the best I could when some of the harder material that I learned awhile back wasn't in the book .

Detatch emotions from the situation, mentally reorganize/reprioritize/re-whatever-elseitize, and then reattatch. And if it's bad enough, just stay detatched and treat the situation in the third person, panic and fear serve me nothing else but to dampen my ability to solve or deal with it.

It depends... if it's a person or anything tangible causing the problem, I generally calm down really quickly or don't even get nervous. When I was about 12, I used to twitch and get teary eyed when confronted, but now I take people's anger very mellow and oftentimes blow my cigarette in a person's face. If it's something serious, a health-related issue, financial loss, or the death of one of my family or friends, I freak out and my reactions uncontrollably fluctuate... my emotions vary and so does my personality.

I fix it. If I don't like something, it changes. I also found it's a lot easier to change
myself than it is to change something outside of me, so usually that alternative gets used...but not first.

I have a projection problem; for example, my current major. It's not exactly a cakewalk, and I'm not enjoying the classes I'm in -AT THE MOMENT-, so I'm thinking, 'I'm going to be miserable for the rest of my career doing something that, while it makes good money, I despise.' I just charted out 20 years of misery with no idea what's actually going to happen. Solution: start thinking about it from other perspectives. This is just a step in the road; I can backtrack if I really want to, so why don't I backtrack? The answer pops up pretty quickly; I don't really want to.

I DO like what I'm doing, and I'm just being whiny about not automatically understanding everything everyone's saying to me. So I might not do as well as I'd hoped. Perhaps I'll get a C or even a D. Yikes?! But, I -did- something, or I guess 'tried' is the word used but I don't agree with that, I'm actually going to do it. So someone else does better than me. Durrr, there are, what, 6 BILLION people in this world? The odds of being the best at something are ludicrous, even passing is a tremendous feat, so why even ponder that? Well, that was easy.

It's just an example, but empowering yourself is sometimes the only defense available. A lot of us feel like if we don't match up to what others are thinking that we've failed somehow. That is fear. Not me, man...

Don't have to, I figured out to not bother too much with emotion. What is there to be afraid of? Nervousness only turns up when one is unsure of themselves.

Hm... I know I commented earlier, but reading more recent responses leads to some other thoughts I had. Well, like I said, I usually just deal with whatever's up and move on, I don't really see the need to dwell on fear and nervousness. They're natural in some cases, but I mean, eh... it's a total waste of time to sit around being afraid and nervous over what is in most cases just nothing at all to worry over.

Well, if I ever find the situation ramping up into more or less anxiety rather than just the generalised feelings of fear and nervousness, I find it helpful to write down the scenario - then write down the worst-case scenario that would follow on, and write down how I would cope with that scenario.

Usually makes things less scary, although there are some situations that it doesn't help much with.

Well... there are plenty of things to fear. Shit happens, and it's arrogant to think otherwise. I used to think the same way but weird things happened in return. Something freaky and random is bound to happen some time in life.

When Im scared or nervous to do something I just dive right into it so to speak. Youll never get over your fears if you dont confront them.

I'm glad I'm one of the people here who apparently likes to face their issues. Seems like I'm good company.
