Is anybody here familiar with it? I got one with a Pac Land game card, but no accessories. No AC adaptor, RF box, joystick, etc. Kinda like the Radio Shack Color Computer 2 I found earlier, except that does boot properly since the power cord is built in. It's only good for playing with basic right now. BTW, these systems were just 99 cents each. Also got Act of War Direct Action @ $9.99, Prince of Persia Sands of Time @ $5 recently. Hmm, no accessories huh? That's kind of bad. I've played the system before, but I'm not really familiar with the accessories. I'm going to guess that any RF switch and/or AC adapter will work, but I'd go get a more official source on that before trying it. As to the lack of a joystick/controller problem, try here, though I'd check EBay or something first, as $20 seems like a ripoff. |

The Turbo Grafx 16 works! I used a Sega CD power supply and an NES RF box. Still, it's not much use until it has a joystick. Would it be possible to mod say, a Genesis or NES pad? There's a Radio Shack store within 5 minutes from here, so I'd be able to get parts. I'm short 2 RF boxes for all these systems as well. This TG16 even has excellent video output. I'm very serious about such things, as my earlier thread showed.

Well, off the top of my head, the controller ports for the TG-16 are different from both the Genesis and NES ones. That said, if you look at the basic TG controller design, it's almost identical to the NES controller except for the turbo switches (Buttons "II and I" correspond directly to B and A on the NES controller). So if you were going to mod a controller to play on the TG, an NES one would probably be your best bet. Note that I absolutely DO NOT know about the insides of either controller, and am thus not qualified at all to know how difficult modding one to play in the other system would actually be; I'm merely going on external design and functionality. |

Wow! Where the hell did you find a Turbo Grafx 16? My dad has always been a fanatic with buying technology, although he usually has no clue how to use it. So, before I was born, Dad ran out and bough the Turbo Grafx 16 and the portable version for it (which had a TV attachment! Lets see a PSP play TV! Hah!). The portable one was bigger than an original GameBoy, and it played all games that the Turbo Grafx 16 played. The graphics were great! Waaay ahead of its time. It was doing almost SNES-type graphics at the time of the NES! I loved that thing to death when my dad showed to to me... Someday I'll find it again and hook 'er up to the television. Good luck finding stuff for it, theclaw. Check eBay. They have everything. |

Sign that a system is dying or dead: Looking in the Radio Shack flier in late 93/early 94 and seeing the TG-16 being sold for the low low price of $19.99. And I didn't even pick one up then. But yeah. TG-16 = pretty decent system with some good games and shooters. |

It has Valis. Fucking Valis. I mean if you like your CV games...this should pretty much give you incentive to play this console. Super Valis IV for the SNES, however is, arguably, one of the worst ports from this console. The amount of content that was lost from the port is just...well...sad. A basic 2 meg game on the SNES vs. a CD-long one on the TG-16 CD. Hell, Valis III in general is probably one of the best games I've seen emulated. WTF ANIME CUTSCENES YOU SHITTIN'? But don't believe me, read Valis IV yourself... (edited by Prier on 08-29-05 06:31 AM) (edited by Prier on 08-29-05 06:33 AM) |

If I understand correctly, he only has the base unit, and not rhe CD attachment/necessary system card to play CD games. But yeah, if you can track one of those down, you MUST play Ys Book I & II. |

See, that I wasn't sure on. I didn't know if he had the extension for that or not. But having that and VAing in a VG in the early 90s (or even earlier, late 80s) on that system was pretty damn awesome for its time.

VALIS. Geez how I wanted to play games in that series. Must do so this week before school... no excuses. (Wasn't El Hazard for the Genesis a Valis game?) Emptyeye: I have Ys I/II on my PC. Trying to figure out how to burn it. :\ |
