On the old board there was a very nice thread about that addictive puzzle game:
Tetris Attack, in Japan it was named "Panel De Pon".

Nevertheless, a tourney might be fun, although as for myself, I even won't stand a chance with my weak x5 and x6s, but the fun-factor is important

I know, tha last time I tried also to organize a tourney here - due to the lack of players it didn't got to that
So, I'm asking if there is interest - sadly all the people like Maticolotto, Abused Rib are not active, except Prier/Hiryuu who also seems to be quite good.

What about some discussion here, what are your recored in as-fast-as-possible-to-99999 in Endless ?
You will have to kill yourself when your reached it - at least the verified records on a Tetris Attack page (I must not post the name here, although it is VERY nice, but there are two ROMs on it ) has such an end.

What about fastest time in 2P Time Trial ?
As for my self, I suck - 99999 in about 45 minutes, beaten VS. mode on Very Hard only once without a continue (), in Time Attack I usually get something between 3000 to 7000 and I play against one opponent from time to time, who is as "good" as me - most of our games last at least five minutes.
Other than that I would like to participate in maybe a board tourney with pleasure

I would take the time myself but...hell...as of late I'm in another already that's failing to get off the ground and I've got issues with class as is. I'd be pressed.

Back in my prime, and I sometimes get lucky, I could pull a 27,000 in Time Trial and kill Endless Mode in a matter of under 13 minutes. That wasn't the best, but it wasn't half bad either.

1P mode is nothing in comparison to the heat some of the things take in 2P mode. Ask Grey. He was taken apart the other day by me in a half-assed game of it in ZSNES and wondered how in the hell I could easily send him a x10 on Level 5 while he was on 1 in versus mode, thus killing him. If you aren't ready for it...it doesn't last...but if you are...those matches last for hours.

I'd gladly organize it, but we'd need sufficient interest first (and I most likely would sit out... even my x9's aren't good enough against some people)

99999 in about 1 hr, 2 min, though more recently I managed 59 minutes due to luck and three random x9 chains that I didn't see coming. I generally take my time, and therefore suck at two-player. Especially Time Trial; I can't seem to beat 3k anymore, and my best score ever was 5k.

It's been done. Hiryuu will win.

But, I suppose I'm up for it so long as I don't face him in the first round.

He ain't lying, he ruined my shit, and I usually do pretty well in Time Trial.

EDIT: Stickied. Let's see how far this goes.

The interest is a problem:
I tried with hands and feet to put up a tourney by myself, but after people said "it's okay, I'll partiticpate" and we got enough people, I decided to open up two threads - in the first one I even described in detail, how to set up ZSNES(it was the case that zbattle.net seemed to be down - two or three days later Veeb0rg's server did run again), but in the end ... the tourney thread remained relatively empty, so that I cancelled it later; although I got the opportunity to win against all but one of them (so you will have a bigger chance, Tamarin Calanis; even my "skills" - I used the quotations with purpose - were enough to win few games ).

But other than that - you would organize it ... nice. I could do it also, but I lack the experience on these; the only possible system with an uneven/fitting number of people like 8,16 or even (mostly impossible) 32 interested players might be to work with group tables than the (recommended) double k.o. system.

Edit: About Hiryuu's speeds - I usually play on "easy" or level 1 in 2P. Now I tried it the with "Normal" the first time ... and died right early. I'm only used about "hard" in VS Very Hard Mode ...

Nothing too spectacular (one x8 follows ), except I played Panel de Pon that time first ... the sounds are weird, but although the japanese voice is not that loud shouting a "Stop", I rather like the Yoshis in Tetris Attack ...

Alright, then...

Poll Time...

Poll Part One:
Time Trial
Vs.

Mode of play selection above. Self-explanatory.

Poll Part Two:
Single Elimination
Double Elimination
Double Elimination B

DE is identical to Xk's Literati tournament. DEB has the final round as a best two-out-of-three, no matter who loses the first match.

Now, personally, I'd prefer Vs. and Double Elimination B. But, I won't be joining you, I think...

Also, post if you'll join. I'd like at least eight people.

Poll 1:
- VS.
It simply brings more, Time Trial could be handled separately and not in the tournament; it is just more competetitive in VS., thus giving people the chance to counter the garbage blocks whereas in Time Trial it is mainly not influenced, since the score increases.

Althoúgh Time Trial also is nice, the "battle" character might be missed - so it would result in a single comparsion then. But, maybe some people might be able to learn counter the garbage blocks correctly [continously] and giving a slight chance to scratch on Hiryuu's throne (as Abused and Matticolotto are not here at the moment) - even if the chance is small

Poll 2:
Double Elimination B sounds good - so the people who lose the game actually might have a chance to return, when trying to reclimb the tourney inside the loser's bracket. And having a longer final match may mean more matches - but two equal contestants have better chances and it just is great

Another question: What about ZSNES movies ?
I personally would like to watch the different games - the question is if we should make them volontary or even require them (I don't think we will have problems with claiming wrong wins and such, but it might be interesting how everyone plays) - a ZSNES movie is recorded instantly and very small.

Maybe I'm not so far out of my prime as I thought I was.

For the record, it was actually 12'35". It just took me a second to press F1 to take the snap.

Zznes movies are unreliable. Around 50 seconds after a movie is started recording, it starts to skip and mess up, causeing everything to come out wrong...This would be fun. I never used the Jap Panel De Pon version, its the same thing right?

Also, do you guys, the ones that get like combos that kill the game, use a keyborad or gamepad? Im stuck with keyboard

Keyboard. I'm serious.

And the movies don't mess up if you know how to take them. Online, just don't exit to the screen, the instant you do is the instant you fuck up.

Oh I forgot to answer these if I even do it.

VS/DEB works. Make sure that the rounds are best 2 of 3 regardless though. Or you could go how the last went. (i.e. first was 2 of 3, second was 3 of 5, final was 4 of 7). Course I nailed Dani 4-1 back in the day even with that 4of7 clause.

Alrighty, then... VS and DEB seems to be agreed upon. My reason for the final round being 2/3 was because, in Xk's Literati tournament, if the person who hadn't lost yet lost the final, he/she had another chance, which I had seen as a bit unfair... so in DEB, the Final is, quite simply, the Final. No second chances, just 2 of 3...

Movies: Voluntary. Screenshots of the match's end (just before Win/Lose comes up) preferred, but I'll trust you - both people involved PM/IM me when the matches are over with teh final results.

I'd be up for it even though my TA skills aren't exactly top-notch or anything.

Actually, the last TA tournament many moons ago seemed to be one of the most well-organized board things so... (well, I kinda did it but still.)

I might as well join, since I used to play a Pokemon rip-off and was someone decent at it.

SNES right? I'm pretty sure my ZSNES works online, but I'd need to check.

Also, hover the mouse over Xkeeper's picture

ZSNES, yeah. We'll probably be playing on the latest STABLE version when it comes to online play. The latest versions apparently aren't that great but I never noticed any problems.

About the versions though:

Do we all have to have the same version of ZSNES? Or are their online capabilities compatible with the others?

Edit: and which "stable" type are you talking about, because I don't want something that's TOO old, but not something that won't work well.

I think 1.36 is the latest "super stable" version when it comes to online play. Just drop it in a different directory and then drop the rom in if that's the route we end up going.

And we need the same versions, yeah.
