Even still, the price of a game--only around 30 bucks now these days? I'd say that's not bad at all..but hm.

The people here complaining about Nintendo's decision to make the Game Boy Micro don't realise that they're not the target market. Nintendo isn't making the GBM for their current fans; they're making the GBM to get new customers. People who want backwards compatability are all already gamers -- they will have already bought a GBA: Nintendo already has them, so why add a feature only they would use? The GBM is aimed at people who don't already play Gameboy games. The GBM handles most of the reasons people would give for not playing Gameboy. Too clunky? The GBM is tiny. Too dorky? The GBM looks fairly cool, and at worst is still tiny and easy to hide.

If Nintendo backs this up with a cheap price and a push for some games that're suited to more casual play, they could introduce a lot more people to gaming. People who'll start with some brand-loyalty to Nintendo.

I suppose you are right. Its just annoying that Nintendo would try and focus their attention to two handheld markets at once: The DS and the GBA line.

Quite frankly, I think the DS line has been neglected this past year. The only game in the USA worth the buying would be Super Mario 64 DS. But, tommorow Nintendogs and Advance Wars DS come out, so I'll be looking forward to seeing if this redeems the DS.

Have you tried Meteos or Kirby: Canvas Curse? Even Wario Ware Touched is worth buying, in my opinion. Plus, those unhappy with the current supply of US titles can always import Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, Jump Superstars, or Band Brothers, all of which look very good. The first two probably won't see the light of day in the US, too, so they'll most definitely be worth picking up.

Plus, what's wrong with 2 handhelds at once? Hell, if you have a DS, you have a GBA, too, so you can play both of them. Considering the large GBA userbase, I think it's a good move for Nintendo to continue supporting that system, and DS users can get in on the action because the DS can play GBA games. Although I am not really interested in GBA games and would like to see more DS games come out here (why is Japan getting so many amazing DS games while we're left with only a couple?), I'll just continue to wait patiently. *shrugs*

They said the DS would never replace the GBA, and that is good. The GBA is completely different than the DS--Something can only look good in 2D sometimes. There are many games that would never be pulled off the same way if it was big and 3D. The GBA had and continues to have such incredible games. I support both, and I think it is a brilliant move on their end.

Actually, the DS is a super GBA, pretty much. It's not like all DS games are 3D; many are, in fact, 2D, and in terms of 2D the DS only differs from the GBA in a few small features and the whole dual screen, touchscreen, microphone, and wireless sort of thing (and it's not like games need to utilize touchscreen and microphone stuff, and the dual screen aspect can easily be ignored). I would be happy if they ditched the GBA and did DS stuff instead, since games on the DS can be made just like a GBA game or better (by utilizing the DS' abilities). Keeping the GBA alive is a good move, commercially, but I really wish the system would be entirely replaced by the DS so there could be more games in development that will make use of what the DS can do.

But what I mean is that if they do too much 2D on the DS people can and WILL find new ways of complaining about it..that is why I am at least sort of happy the GBA is still being given even a little attention as the accepted 2D medium for handhelds..if that makes sence, anyway.

The 2-D Nintendo DS games are mostly the ones I don't wanna buy.
I mean, sure they make great use of the touch screen and stuff, but its like a two-year old painting on one of Van Gough's canvases. Nintendo and other companys don't take advantage of the extraordinary system provided for them. We want 3-D!

I hate your attitude.

You're basicly saying "2D is shit".

Have some respect for 2D games. Sure 3D is great and all, but having both rocks.

That's exactly what she means its people like you who dont APRECIATE the 2d games on the DS, which is the exact reason the GBA is still being made as a platform where people like you will actualy give 2D games a chance

We want 3-D!

Nice to hear that you're speaking for the tastes of all gamers there.

3D's fine, but not every game has to be in 3D and not every game is *best* in it either. Off the top of my head, you have the new Mario game and Castlevania both coming out, both of which should be very good and both of which are... yup... 2D.

Here's what I'm trying to say...

If the system can do 3-D, do it.

I love the GBA 2-D games, because thats whats expected of the GBA. The DS is capable of 3-D worlds, the GBA is not.
I love 2-D games, don't get me wrong. But there's a time and place for everything.

Edit: Just read Colleen's message. I am very excited about The New Mario Bros, 'caz it combines elements of 3-D with 2-D sidescrolling. Was the first part sarcasm?

Let's put it this way. One of us here needs to get their sarcasm detector fixed, 3 guesses who. First two don't count. And yes, I'm aware that the DS can do 3D and as a result SHOULD utalise it. However, that is not to say that any game that was madei n 2D for the DS is any less of a game just because it didn't utalise 3D capabilities.

Haha, okay, my dectector has been fixed. Anyways, thats how I feel about things, Keitaro. I just think more 3D games should be made, so that a 2D game every once in a while is a fun surprise. The stereotype for handheld games is childish 2D games, but Nintendo (and the Sony PSP) could break that sterotype!

That's what I'm hoping, anyways...I hate that sterotype that Nintendo has. They say the games are kiddy without giving half of them a chance. I'm actuly going to stick up for Pokemon here for being an AMAZING game through the years...even the ones I didn't particularly care for were pretty damn good. I mean the main games, the spinoffs to this date have always been a little eh. Some other good games include Yoshi's Island (yes I actualy know people who refused to play it because it looked "kiddy" )

As I don't have a SP anymore, I was looking forward to a the new GBA System for GBC Games, small, handy, Game Boy. But alas, it's not for me. But for new players.

The Game Boy Micro is for Casual gamers, that may be also a reason why Nintendo releases it on the 17th September.
I don't know what games NOA will release on the same day, but NCL will release Super Mario Bros. again, also a Dr.Mario & Panel de Pon (Tetris Attack) compilation for GBA, both for a mere 2000 Yen (About 20 US$). And Mario Tennis Advance.

The sentence "Get a better System for only 30 Bucks more" stinks, cos for 30 US$ I could get a game, so many may buy a GBM and one Game.

As long as the DS's somewhat limited library is already part of the topic, could anyone tell me if there are any released or anounced RTS games for the DS? The stylus easilly makes it the best system for the job short of a computer, so I'm wondering.

(If there aren't any, I think Nintendo should assign one of its own development groups to the task instead of waiting for a third party to get around to it. There are lots of RTS fans out there and Nintendo is the only company capable of offering a good handheld game for them.)

It makes perfect sense that the GBA Micro doesn't support GBC/GB games. First, as other people have pointed out, GBA Micro is more of a lite version of the GBA.

Second, when the GBA first came out, there weren't many games. That was probably why GB/GBC compatibility was added, because you could still buy new GB/GBC games in shops. Now, there are very few (if any) shops that sell new GB/GBC games, because there isn't any.

Squash Monster: There is a version of Age of Empires coming out for the DS.

Looks like this is another cost-cutting measure...

Although I'm still disappointed that the GBµ won't be able to play my old GB(C) games.

Just as a note, I read somewhere the GBM is coming out at a whopping ninety dollars.

The DS is soon being lowered to $100.

I think any smart person who wasn't buying just because of the size would most definitely shell out another ten dollars for something that plays another generation of [newer] games.

I mean, crap, if you're making a GBA Lite, make the price lower. Jeez.
