Grab it here while it's still hot. You will need Winzip to open it. Please let me know if you have any problems with the download. [FIXED PATCH]

Anyhow, the demo takes you through the first world, six levels in total. Everything is candy themed, like you would expect. I have altered everything but sprites and the basic Mario elements such as coins and question blocks. Please keep criticism civil (I'm looking at you, Blisseh). Questions and comments are, as always, welcomed. So what're you waiting for? Download it already!

Previous screenshots can be found here.

What? I have no idea what you're talking about.

*throws down smokebomb and runs away at the speed of brick*

I like the way you use layer priority and nothingness blocks to create a 3-d look to the candy warehouse. But why do messages from Bowser have the same message block as Mario's thoughts? Use an ExGFX file with a speakerbox over it or something. I also like the way you handle the candy theme, It never once seems like you're out of place. This game is quite difficult, however. And you're always criticizing me for having things being too hard... A tad on the hypocritical side, no? Also, the first message box has a grammatical error. Shouldn't be that hard to find... But just the same, it should say Bowser must have KNOWN you would follow him, not Bowser must have knew you would follow him. Also, there's a small graphical problem in the intro after you select a new game slot;

The green striped block's left edge hangs over the edge of the surface it's on, which looks wierd and unnatural. It would look better if you moved it one to the right.

Yes, difficulty. Difficulty is always a problem with a self-made, self-tested hack, though I did have a couple testers but they didn't mention it was too hard. Do you have any specific parts that you consider too hard? I would like to at least consider making them easier.

Small graphical oversights will be fixed, so thank you for pointing them out for me. You didn't mention the one I did notice on my last playthrough right before I made this thread, though. I'll leave that to others to find. I didn't notice the candy-cane at the start, however, so thanks. On the subject of the message box, it wasn't really supposed to represent Mario's thoughts, thus I didn't even think to make it different for Bowser's message. I'll consider changing it.

Grammar... well grammar never really was my strong suit. Please tell me about any other errors, grammatically or otherwise, that you notice.

Fresh off the ZSNES playing field....

Graphics.... Wow, thats all I can say to describe it. Everything goes together, and nothing has any glitches at all.

Gameplay.... A tad on the hard side... I did find myself reaching for the rewind key quite a few times there, but nothing too serious.... maybe a bit more time on the candy maze would help.

Overworld.... Nothing I can complain about, though mario is a bit off from the door to the factory, change that maybe.

Overall, nothing short of spectacular. I bet most all of us are looking foward to the completion of this hack.

The door is three blocks wide, he's gonna be off no matter what.

More time on the candy maze, gotcha. Though you do get quicker on each play through (there's only one right path, after all), perhaps I could be more forgiving.

How come you only made one world? How come it was so tediously hard? How come I felt like killing the first thing I saw moving out of sheer frustration? Thank God for the Savestate...

Please, people, if a part is too hard, tell me. It isn't my job to make your hands bleed from effort. I want this hack to be enjoyable. The warehouse has been pinged as too hard already by other sources, so don't bother mentioning that. Same goes for the maze.

Also, there are plenty of extra lives for the taking, if you know all the tricks and grab all the coins.

The lolipops are notorious for making you slip off the edge. I lost about 4 lives just trying to stand on one in the first level " Fix dat. Please.

The lollipops have slopes on the sides. Stand in the middle. They're like that on purpose, it just takes a little getting used to. You can't expect everything to be easily mastered on the first try, can you?

EDIT: Oh, and if you need more practice on them (and this goes out to everyone) and you don't want to die getting it, the Candy Village has a a couple of lollipops. Practice getting used to them, there.

This hack looked great and could have been great but...

Here are my comments:

AAAAAAARG!!!!!111!!!! WAY TOO HARD!!!!!!111!!!

You know... not everyone think that being forced to use savestates every 5 seconds is fun. Also, about the factory... while it got cool GFX, it also got near-to-impossible to find invisible blocks which make playing this level more a chore than anything else.

...

In short, better luck next time! Remember, while you may be able to beat SMB lost levels with both hands tied behind your back without being hit, not everyone is like you!

Easy there, Zerodius. I don't think the invisible blocks are hard to find, they're all in easy to find locations, at least I think so. Hint: If there's a jump that you can't make vertically, an invisible block is in the nearby vicinity.

I will release an easier version when enough parts that are just too hard are pointed out. On the list:

1. Lollipops not so difficult to navigate
2. Shorter jumps in the warehouse
3. Not as many enemies in key parts
4. Less obscure invisible blocks

Anything else that needs to be added, let me know.

Lollipops were hard at first but they got easier, you don't need to make them different. Shorter jumps? Pfeh. That was the best part. Enemies in key parts do need to go, though... But I didn't have any problems with invisible blocks...

Can you think of any specific parts where the enemies were just too annoying? I know of a Thwomp that is just brutal unless you're good at landing on the edge of a block, but nothing else is coming to mind.

Yes, I hated that. I spin jumped and bounced on him very slowly making it closer to the edge until I fell but didn't make it over the cliff, waited for him to go all the way up, then ran and jumped to the next platform... Lost all my powerups trying, though =/

What I did have a problem with, though. was this. You can walk into this wall and you can't get out. It's like a left-only block.

Hmm, that's a curious bug. I thought I had eliminated all walls that did that. It used to be that you could spin jump into pretty much every wall if you timed it right, or use slopes to jump backwards into walls. The reason was because I made the walls act like the connecting peice of a slope, but with a left or right only block applied. This way I could have slopes that ended at a drop off. I've since fixed the problem for most walls, but it appears I forgot one. Thanks!

EDIT: And verified. I'll release the fixed patch in a couple of minutes. I'll touch up a couple of other problems while I'm at it, such as the beginning stage and the thwomp.

Hey, You also need to fix the doors there. The double doors don't look like doors. I thought maybe they were and went up and tried to enter but failed... Because I was in the middle. You need to cut one out, or use the giant boss door. In addition, I found the secret exit to the switch palace... I loved the poker chip coins especially. Edit 2... The poker chips stacked to the cieling are glitchy. Jump as super or fire mario into them and you'll land on the top and then be pushed off to the left.

Edit AGAIN...

The heart blocks, when hit, look like yellow face blocks until they come back down.

Another good catch. Maybe I should ask you to beta test for me next time...

The regular switch blocks look the same when you hit them. Of course, THEY actually display in the same color as the block they temporarily replaced. Easy to fix. Good thing I was making one final check before I released the fixed version. Thanks a bundle, Blisseh.

PS: Please keep the entrance to the switch palace secret.
