See if this makes any sense. I decided to keep the card reader that I mentioned here, and stuck it in my comp. Don't have USB 2 on my motherboard, just 1.1. So I hooked it up (there is a FireWire connection on the new card, and a connection on the reader, but it's JUST for the reader's FireWire port, as the reader's USB) and stuck the USB connections onto the motherboard. Sacrificing the floppy drive's power connection, as there's only one power hookup off the power supply that's the right size and the USB 2/FireWire card needs one. (I'm sure I can get an adapter, but WHATEVER, that's not important.) The power light lights up when I stick a memory card (SD) in there, and there's a drive icon in My Computer (mind you, this is in XP SP2) for the reader... but it's CF. Needless to say, it will NEVER work. Just tried it again, sticking the SD card from my phone in there. The comp seems to recognize that it's doing something, but it won't read the card. Now that I think of it, I think it'll have issues getting the CF card in... might have to force it. Ah, THERE we go. It's REALLY confused. I have to stick BOTH an SD and CF card in there for it to work. The CF slot enables the SD slot, and vice versa. Think the store'll take it back? |

yeah, i'd try returning it...if that fails, you could try a "swap" trick and get the same one if that is possible. otherwise, i dont' know why it does that... |
