I recently heard on TV today that a new worm is attacking all Windows ME computers. I'm not sure if it attacks they older versions but I know for sure that Windows XP can't be infected by the worm. The thing is, I don't have that much information about it and goolge is not helping either. I'm worried about my computer because my Norton Antivirus 2005 isn't working. Has anyone else heard of the new worm?

EDIT BY GREY: I think this would probably be a good place to discuss any new worms, virusii, trojans, etc. that users might want to know about, so if you find anything, not just what Fabio's heard about, post it here so that we can all know and be aware.

Actually, it's Windows 2000, though CNN says it might be able to affect certain versions of XP. What it does is shuts down the computer-- that's all I know. If your antivirus isn't working, turn off your internet connection.

Yeah, my dad's been watching it on CNN.

CNN, New york times, ABC, and even some government computers were having problems.

They also said some versions of XP are vunerable.

It reboots your computer over and over again apparently.

I found out some useful information at this site.
http://www.rediff.com/money/2005/aug/16virus.htm

I downloaded and installed some security updates from microsoft.com to protect my computer from the worm, I hope. I also searched my computer for the Botzor.exe that was mentioned in the article and no results were found which is a good thing.

Thanks for the information..

Downloading updates on dial-up...yeah..fun.

Ah well, its worth it but I think a firewall should be enough.

The sad thing is from what I researched this new worm, not too many people know this. Most people are unaware that their computer may get infected by the worm called WORM_ZOTOB. It also had some other names. If you want to know more, you could search on Yahoo News or somewhere else and type in new virus. That's how I found a bunch of articles about this.

This sounds a lot like the worm that Caterpillar, company my dad works for, got yesterday. But it was either a Worm or a Trojan, can't remember, called "haha.exe", it was hidden in a security patch and infected all of Caterpillar Clayton facilities here in NC. The PCs were all networked together, it hit the main PC and everything went to hell fast. Every PC got a timer and in whatever seconds it would shut down, restart and do it again, and again and again, took them 2 hour just to find it, then hours walking around to everyones PC to removing it.

I heard about the "haha.exe" from some article but I'm trying to find it. I found a another article about the same worm that's been attacking computers but in this article it mentions hackers using IM to spread the virus faster. So if you haven't patched your computer yet, beware of IM.
