So a couple of weeks ago, the dorms call me and tell me I'm in and all this good stuff. I feel good that I don't have to worry about this anymore and life is good.

So the weeks pass, I start to wonder who my roomates are so I can talk to them before. So I call, tell them my name and they're all "Sorry, but you're still on the waiting list for a room".. Bullshit...

So now I need to find a place to stay. Having my own apartment would be kickass, plus I wouldn't have to sneak the girlfriend in to stay with me on the weekends.. yet... it could get very costly. I could go with a studio apartment, but that would suck too. I have relatives that live near where I'm going to school, but that means no weekend rendezvous'.

Hmmm...

Well I have about 2 weeks tops before I have to make a decision. So wish me luck.

So, at your school, you're not guaranteed rooms in the dorms? WTF. Here it may be expensive, but there's always a room available for anyone.

Yeah... it's not really the biggest school. There dorms are freakin awesome tho. Cable and T1 access. Suite Style, 4 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, in each one. You get your own room. That's kinda why I wanted to get in. That's why it's hard to get in. Right now I'm 12 on the waiting list, so we'll see what happens.

if only you took the name down of whoever called you and said your place is secure...

as for #12--depends on how big the dorm is...

at my campus, dorm housing is guaranteed for the first two years, after that--you are one your own as they give preference to the new students. however, most people only stay in the dorms for one year as it is much, much more expensive than living in your own apartment

Would it be possible to get a place with your girlfriend?

I guess that could be kind of complicated though ...
- Parents
- Relationship level

etc, so yeah. Just a thought I guess.

Good luck..

I'd actually give them one more call back if you haven't already, because who knows if they have their crap together or not. :\

Good lesson: ALWAYS take down the name/info of someone who gave you important information. That way if they try to screw you over, you can always say "well, so-and-so told me otherwise" and then the sparks can fly.

Dorms here are like that too. Many, if not most of the colleges are running out of rooms, and have to turn away over half of the students applying for room and board. To solve it, they are raising the cost of it, so now it's almost the same price to rent a place, and CHEAPER if you get a roommate.
Hope everything works out for you, maybe some people will change their mind before the year starts and you'll get in.

She's in Lincoln, I'm in Omaha, they're allowed to have people as guests overnight but they aren't allowed to sleep in the room (wtf). Even then, I wouldn't be able to stay with her. If I get a place she's coming to stay with me on weekends. If not, I'll stay with her on the weekends and commute from Columbus (a good hour and a half) to Omaha everyday first semester. Talk about royal pain in the ass.

Hopefully enough people will get off the waiting list and that it'll move down quickly to your name. The dorms sounds coolio though but check out prices of aparments and what not. I'd keep on calling the school about the dorms.

Yech.. that sucks. But hey, at least you can avoid staying with relatives. Enjoy those rendevous. Or maybe you'll get in before. 12 isn't that far into the list.. at my high school, I'm number 241 to get a parking spot.

Dorms are cheaper than private apartment sharehouses? Where the hell do you live?

Ouch...

That is terrible that they don't have enough dorm rooms. I've never heard that, but generally higher grades = easier dorm room...

If that was the case then I'd be set. I don't call a 3.95 GPA and in the top 10% of my class as low.
