I remade the first room in Crateria and moved the ship to the lower-right corner. Unfortunately, when I play it in ZSNES, a portion of the screen turns into purple tiles, the ship is missing its' bottom half and I fall through nothing, reappearing out of the right side of the screen onto solid blocks in mid-air...O-o

Is there something special you have to do when moving the ship's starting position, or am I plagued by something else?

At first, I thought this was going to be a question of how to change the room the ship lands in (which I could have told you how to do that using SABS, not SMILE).

This problem is something that has been looked into by a few of the Super Metroid hackers. Though, I can't remember if it was found to be hardcoded into the game or not (the ship will currently land on the 5th screen to the left and 5 screens from the top).

Sorry about that, but at least this gets bumped back to the top for awhile.

Hmmm...that's a problem. The game works fine other than the fact that half my ship is missing...looks kinda weird and you can't enter it. Grrr. Hopefully someone knows how to get this working, although the mention of the hardcoded data is some help...thanks, anyway.

Hello, just became a member of the board, and I've also been fiddling with SMILE. When you move the ship sprite, there should be two other sprites underneath, both look like the hatch to her ship. what you have to do is move those under the ship, the only problem is that when you try to match it up there can be a gap or the ship appears smashed together. Anybody know how to fix this? And whats this SABS you speak of Ice Ranger?

Well, I solved it by starting my hack over...luckily I hadn't done much more than a few rooms in Crateria so it wasn't too hard. Keep the ship where it is (5 tiles from the left and five tiles from the top of a room) and build Crateria around it. You can even fool the game by setting the room properties to, let's say, 7 by 7, and then changing all the scrolling areas except for the ship's and another to non-scrolling, and using the map you can make it appear that the room is only two tiles long. It's really simple, actually...

The next version of SMILE (unreleased, but existing) will allow you to *partially* edit this. Basically... The save/load points determine the room they start in and position to start at. The ship is one of these, which can now be edited. You can put the ship on any screen of any room now, BUT....

The landing sequence is a seperate loading point. As long as the ship is kept directly underneath where you tell the game to start the landing sequence, it'll be fine. Anywhere else and you'll never land (and never play). You *can* change the horizontal/x value where the ship comes down. You currently can't change the vertical/y position where it will stop though. I believe this part is hard coded into the ASM code that drops the ship. If this is the case, it will also be included in SMILE by the time I do this release.

As for falling through the ship when you stand on it.... You'll notice on the original location, there are lots of green slope markers where it stood. Copy these (or remake them) in the new location. Those are what allow you to stand on the ship.

FYI- "This release" is still being worked on. Hope to release within the next week though.

BTW- Check http://jathys.zophar.net for a screeny of a landing test.
