Ever have one of those days where you wake up and you get the urge to do something, something that should be supremely easy, but you find that it's so much harder to do than you thought it would be?

Well, a few days ago I started thinking about Sonic SatAM. You know, the original ABC-based Sonic Anime that I was talking about a few months back.

I miss it deeply. I want it, I need it, and if anyone (Xeogred, I'm looking in your direction....) has ANY information on it at all, I'd be extremely happy to hear it. Yeah, I know, the chances of it coming back for a third season after being in the gutter for 11 years are lower than that of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers suddenly becoming good (points if you get the reference), but still... I'd love to just be able to watch it again. Relive one of the decent parts of my childhood.

There're DVDs of the show released, at least the first few episodes of it, anyway. Dunno about anything else.

Wasn't it "Dark Sonic"?

Trust me, this show, along with like the Megaman show, and a few special other ones hold special moments in my childhood.

I loved this show so much because it was serious, and it also tied in several times to Sonic CD, one of the greatest games ever in my opinion.

It's just one of those things though, it bugs me so much I can't stand it. See, like you Grey, I loved this show dearly, but the thing is I can HARDLY remember any of it.

I've never found anything myself personally, yet. I'll talk to my torrent-happy friend about it and maybe see if he knows of anything. I'd like to see this just as much as you probably.

(heh, my "torrent-happy friend" just recently got all 3 Seasons of Beast Wars. That show, also totally ruled back in the day)

As for Power Rangers, you should post the petition. (I lost the link )

Edit: I mean, look at it this way. This show reminds me of Sonic CD by so much, it's incredible, I almost link the two for some reason. And how much do I like Sonic CD? I'm buying a FreeLoader for my GCN, so I can get the Japanese version of Sonic Gems to play Sonic CD with the Japanese Soundtrack, then I plan on buying the US version of Sonic Gems also to hear what I used to play with the US soundtrack, when I had my Sega CD. Sonic CD is just so awesome, and so is this anime.

Actually, the unofficial name of the anime is Sonic SatAM, since it was aired on saturday mornings on ABC.

The thing is, I've found some new information on it that's not really all that new. Credit goes to Melvin, but there are scans of the long-running Archie comic of the show, which absolutely rules (since it in no way whatsoever relates to that POS that was based off of Sonic 2).

I........... like Sonic CD, but I don't go that far into it. It was another Sonic game, certainly not comparable to Sonic 3 and Knuckles. But a cut above the rest for sure. And I can see where all the tie-ins occur, I liked those too...

As of now I'm just running around searching for the scans.

Really I loved S3&K, but I truly liked Sonic CD so much more.
- CD soundtrack
- So many different versions of the levels
- A good 3D bonus stage
- Introduced Metal Sonic
- Sonic was ALONE!

And so much more. I'm not argueing, just my opinion.

And please link to the scans when you find them!

Was this show based off of a comic / manga maybe?

(PS: Yeah, that other Sonic cartoon was horrible. Even as a careless younger kid, I still hated it back in the day)

Nah-uh, that's the illegal part. The scans are licensed, and since the comic's still going on (and apparently has a few million plot crossovers in the process), it's doubtful that any comprehensive archives will be released sometime soon.

My advice is to find them yourself if you can and tell ME about them if you know anything, cause honestly, I've been searching for weeks and I've turned up nothing (probably because I suck with the interweb).

While I'm sure someone is going to come in here and yell at you guys for calling this American cartoon an anime... I'm not gonna be the one to do it.

Sonic the Hedgehog (also known to fans as Sonic SatAM) is easily the best of the three old Sonic cartoon series (The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM), and Sonic Underground).

But, at the same time, I'd say SatAM fails in comparison to the Sonic the Hedgehog comics produced by Archie Comics, which are in fact based off the show and not the other way around (production on the show began before production on the comics, even though the comics started hitting shelves before the show began to air). Archie Comics has a way of taking a pre-existing reality such as this and expanding it in awesome ways... They did the same thing with their comics based on the old TMNT cartoon.

I remember the TMNT comics! Those were good too, I got a 3 pack of them for christmas a few years ago... I always wondered how the stories unfolded like that, and how the characters turned out the way they did.

Dammit, I need to find these old comics and READ THEM.

Yea the comics are defintely NOT FOR KIDS.(according to today's worried yet hypocritical, lazy ass parents) I have the sonic comic where mecha knuckles and mecha sonic do battle. (or is it regular sonic? Dunno )

EDIT: Yep, Mecha Madness with Mecha Sonic vs. Mecha Knuckles.

Link didn't really work Jin.

Also, wasn't there some character, who was supposedly the brother of Sonic or something? Err, not sure if that's right. I remember there being some weird character who was kind of Pink, and I think he wore cowboy-ish boots with a cowboy-hat and he was a villain.

Again, I probably just butchered that character, but yeah.

I believe you're thinking of Sonic Underground, Xeo. And here's the same pic except uploaded onto my site:

Mecha Madness. We(my bro and I) actually got the copy of that comic in Pakistan in the summer of '96. (wow, 9 years already...)

Nah, that's not it. It was a male character I believe. Now that I think about it though I think he was maybe on some of the covers from the comics shown in Sonic Mega Collection, I'll have to check it out again ...

The only character I can think of that even partly matches that description is Nack the Weasel (AKA Fang the Sniper), though being a weasel (or weasel/wolf in the games), he's certainly not related to Sonic.

Yeah, that's him ... yeah, sorry for the horrible description and faulty history on the character, just some random stuff I happen to remember from 2nd grade (some kid told me he was Sonic's Evil Brother ).

If anyone's still interested, you can download the first 8 episodes of SatAM from here http://www.planetdreamcast.com/sonic/see/satam/index.shtml. You have to have a GameSpy ID to download them.

Ack! I can't download them!!
I miss my sonic...

I only have a few episodes of Sonic The Hedgehog taped...
I wish it'd come back on TV. It was airing on USA for awhile, but that was before I taped anything. My dad taped a few episodes when I was 7 from ABC, though.

Can I link to my screenshots here?

My first guess would've been Doomsday, but IIRC that's actually Julian's regular hangout. Doomsday was much bigger, I think. I haven't seen the show in ten years, I think I'll have to go to SunCoast and find it the next time I'm in there. I don't think Wal Mart would have it.

I did manage to tape a few episodes though. "Sub Sonic" and quite a few from the second season, up until a couple before Doomsday. I miss not watching this show, and I'm sad that I'm not able to.

I liked that show somewhat.

You can set your systems to japanese mode somehow for the japanese sound track of sonic CD, but That sound track is quite creepy. It influenced some of the sonic adventure songs though... Tidal Tempest sounds like it would fit well for aquatic mine, in the japanese version. Personally I think some of the american tracks were better suiting, that japanese boss track sounds stupid in my opinion.
