As of recently, I'm considering taking the time to create some new graphics (floor/wall/ceiling kind of stuff, mainly) from scratch. I know how to use ExGFX, but was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown of how to draw some new FG graphics and stuff. I've been using yy-chr for editing so far...are there any rules with regard to how I lay out the graphics in a .bin file?

Hopefullt that was clear enough...basically I'm just looking for some tips on drawing some new FG stuff to use. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

I always do it the tedious way because I want everything to be exact. If you slapin your own graphics in YY-CHR in less than a minute you could have problems...

I always use paint. Take the 8x8 square brush and make checkers as a guide. Then think of something creative to put in the grid. Pay attention to what colours you use so you can put them in your hack later...

I also use YY-chr to create my graphics. I use paint if I need graphics larger (like 1 16x16 block) than a 16x16 block, and then copy paste it into YY-chr.

I would recommend you look at smw's palette layout. It goes black, white, black. The first one is transparent. It shows up dark green in yy-chr's default palette. Then there is white which I think shows up as white in YY-chr. Then the next black. It is very often used for outlines. It shows up as a greenish color in YY-chr.

Bascally the yy-chr palette layout and the smw palette layout are the same. However, in my experience the paint --> yy-chr palette is very different.

Good luck and I hope you come up with something good. What kind of style are you planning to do?

Sounds reasonable...does it matter how I order the varous tiles when I make the actual file to insert?

Style? Well, I've got a few ideas in mind...but first I'll need to see what I can get to look decent ;D

The order doesn't matter as long as you can assemble the tiles... If you don't want to run the risk of them getting scrambled, do it on LM.
