This morning, my dog had a really hard time walking, and getting up, and kept falling over. We took him to the vet. The doctor said his spine was degenerating. We had a choice of drugs for the dog, or put him to sleep. We put him to sleep because we didn't want him to be in anymore pain.

Same thing happened to our Beagle last summer (about mid-June). She could walk fine, but if she jumped anywhere or went up or down or whatever she would yelp in pain. We tried the drugs, it worked for about a month, but then it started up again. We ended up putting her to sleep. It was hard, but for the best.

She was about 15 or 16 in human years, according to the doctor (we supposedly got her when she was 3, but that was only 7 years ago).

I am very sorry for you and your family. I know how hard it is to lose a pet that you love. On April 1st 2000(nice day eh), we had to put my cat Keiko (note my username) to sleep. She had breast cancer and her body was getting really thin. It was oozing and turning colors (the cancer). She was in a great deal of pain I think. She couldn't eat, or walk. She just sat down and slept alot. We kept her alive for a few days after it got pretty bad because we wanted her to have a few more days with us. Selfish maby, but she was really important to me. Then on April 1st she got really bad. Throwing up, and all that horrible stuff. We brought her to the clinic and they put her to sleep. It was horrible. I miss her everyday.

I'm sorry you lost your friend.

It's sad when someone loses a love one. I already have a cat that's going to be 11 years old next month, and I'll don't think he'll make it by the time I graduate from school. He's already starting to lose his whiskers and starting to run more slowly. I knew my cat since I was 4. I'll probably have to do the same thing by putting him asleep when it's time.

Well, at least you did the right thing by not letting you dog suffer any more pain.

I know that is seeing as I lost my cat I got from kindengarden teacher in either 9th or 10th grade. Soon was my baby ferret that wasn't even a month old or so three years ago. My cat, Garfield, she died from a stroke we think but she stayed alive for about a week after she had a stroke. She wasn't doing very good during that time and was barely moving and eating. As for my little fuzzy, Blaze, he was just horrible but the thing was he was completely fine then boom he was struck down by some kind of disease. It's not cool to hear a baby ferret cry out in pain. Blaze was my little fuzzy ferret buddy that was awesome and totally cute! Well now last december, my mom brought in a stray cat that looks almost like my old cat Garfield. Except Angel has white on her while Garfield didn't and she likes me more than anyone else. I do believe that Angel could be an incarnation of Garfield.

Yeah sometimes its better just to end their pain. My doggy Rot Max stepped on a nail, got infected and got a tumor on his back leg and was limping and everything so we had to put him to sleep. That was hard because we had him for awhile but it was for the better..we had to put to sleep a few animals. Sorry about your loss

Interestingly enough, the whole "dog years to human years" isn't accurate at all.

Ive always wondered, just WTF is dog years, it never made any sense to me. I dont see the point of giving dogs their own scale or whatever.

Anyways, im sorry for your loss. It's a moment all pet owners dread, but of course something your going to have to deal with eventually. Just make sure you remember the good things about the dog, rather than focusing on it being gone.
