Woah! Assuming you can jump on those "ice blocks", are you gonna make a few secret areas where you have to maybe shoot enemies in order to get to somewhere high? Maybe like that stage in the Ice World where you have to carry the ice block up by flying with it in order to kill a couple of spineys to get the Hammer Bros. Suit?

Okay, so it's alot different, but do you get what I mean? Make a stage, where the only way to get through it is to build your own staircase. You'll have to make sure the player can go in and out of the room incase you lose the powerup though.

Just think about it. You'd have to carry a Koopa shell along with you, shoot it straight up in the air (thanks to your talents again), freeze it, then jump on top of it!

Or maybe the way you have it working, is that the ice block drops as soon as it freezes. This wouldn't be possible then.

Make sure you have some use for these ice blocks though!

I just assumed the ice blocks would operate like the blue blocks you can carry in the original game (after they've been lifted). So you couldn't jump on them, but you can kick or lift them (like a turtle shell).

For them to be stand-on able, you'd think they'd have to become part of the map, and somehow doubt that's how it's working (plus it would be kind of weird if it worked that way, since the enemy would have to snap to the nearest 16x16 block when frozen).

But I await DD's answer to this as well

I could make the ice be solid platforms that can be stood upon without changing tiles, there are some sprites that operate as solid platforms, however, I see no advantage in this.

So the ice blocks operate just as Disch said: grabbable and kickable, that's it.

Just wanted to show you folks exactly what's in store for each seperate quest.

Both are World one. As you see, both have completely different layouts, start positions, even different palettes.

HolyCrapGood!

Wow. That looks awsome. Any chance that you added SRAM, like in the NES zelda games?

Ok, lemme explain what SRAM really is right fast.

On some NES cartridges, there's extra RAM on the cart itself, this is called WRAM. Now, what SRAM is, is WRAM that's kept "alive" with a battery. Know how regular RAM needs electricity, right? Once you turn off the power supply, RAM blanks out. Well, SRAM takes a battery and keeps WRAM charged up so that it doesn't die after the power is turned off.

With that said, SMB3 already has WRAM. Turning that into SRAM is a small matter of an extra few register writes and possibly a header change. Will I do that in this hack? No.

I have an idea: What if, on Mario's Quest, there's this huge castle in World 1-1. Now, on Luigi's Quest, you would go through the same castle, but in World 6-4. Luigi would pass through an area that Mario had already went through, but go to places Mario didn't. Like there's a part cut off by mountains, and there's a few blank tiles over on the other side. Now, later on, you could say that after deafiting a certain koopa kid, that the airship crashed into the mountain and blew open a path. Anybody playing Luigi's quest wouldn't know of this, and when they go back and play on Mario's, they'd find out what Mario did to cause the mountain to be destroyed. If this even makes sense

We know that, but the player doesn't Luigi's world map would have the mountain already destroyed, while Mario's would still have it intact. When you beat the koopa kid, in Peach's letter, you could have it say that. Or the king, or whatever, since you're changing so much. For the castle, you could basically have the same layout in each quest, but different rooms and such. You could have Luigi's king say that Mario had come through and defeated so and so, but on Mario's, it would say that the koopa kid has turned him into whatever.

This might be similair to what Celice said, but perhaps have some similarities, say Mario's World 6 is Luigi's World 1, but frozen over, so you can go through the level differently, and be forced to take paths Luigi couldn't.

Wow...talk about a spam post. Anyways, I see what you two are talking about, but we already know they are going to the princess and I'd rather see a new world then (dare I say) waste a world doing that. Also it would be weird to, lets say, have Mario on world 1 and then Luigi on world 6 (iced version) at the same time if world 6 was supposed to be the after effect of who knows what. That is where the problem is, then you would say. Why not add it so it will detect if Mario beat that world or not and then depending on that have it do this world or the other. That idea is already answered as well, because he said they won't be interacting with each other and I'm sure he isn't going to add one world more for only one character (unless it's a secret world? hmm? heh).

I really like how this hack is coming about. The idea is awesome and I'm sure the gameplay will be as well. Take your time and don't burn out. heh

Also, I don't believe someone asked this (if so I must've skimmed over it). Are the two players going to alternate like the game normally does from level to level or will they be playing at the same time (a real race)? To guess the answer I'd say it is going to be the original way of playing with two players, the switching.
