...yeesh, it's been a year already?

Anyway, for the next hour and a half or so, it'll be a year ago today--July 19, 2004--that I was officially diagnosed with cancer--specifically, non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in my chest. I posted a few topics about it here after I went home from the hospital the first time, and again when I was finally done.

Well, as of right now, I'm cancer-free, thanks to a regimen of chemotherapy that I would seriously not wish upon my worst enemy. I've also been out of school for over a year, and it'll frankly be weird going back, since all my classmates have graduated already.

So despite what it sounds like, this is a celebration topic to celebrate my still being alive.

Yay living!

That's good that you're cancer free again. Also yeah the years just seem to fly by now unlike back when we were little kids.

Wait, that was you?

All I have to say is thank God for technology... geez, cancer.

Never have I known anyone with it...

Congrats on a full recovery... just one question... (May sound kind of rude) Did you lose your hair?

*big hug*

Well, I'm glad to hear you're better

I hope that going back to school goes smoothly for you. It probably will be a little weird, but as long as you look on it as an opportunity to meet new people and such, it'll be good

Congrats on feeling better

Marijuana! It's the best thing in the world for chemotherapy.

Anyway, glad to hear you're doing great.

My dad's friend got diagnosed with brain cancer. She just got surgery a few weeks ago. I ended up going with him to Denver to see her. She's doing ok now, though.

Of course someone who can easily defeat Battletoads can defeat cancer.

But yeah, good to hear the good news. Cheers for more good health with you Emptyeye.

Thanks everyone.

To answer the question, I lost my hair, yes. Contrary to popular belief, though, you don't go totally bald from chemotherapy--it just leaves you looking like someone in their mid-40s, as opposed to being cue-ball bald.

EDIT: You can actually my hair mid-chemo in the Photo Album.

Heh, Battletoads, my blessing and my curse.

Really you had cancer? My cousin was diagnosed with Lukemia last year and she is only 5 years old. I am pretty sure she is in remission now but I never get to hear all the upated news.

But I am glad you got rid of the cancer.

It's good to hear a success story, congratulations.
My grandpa died of cancer when I was 2, I never knew him, but I do know that it was a difficult fight for him and he just couldn't do it.

That's great news . Glad you made it.. though I had an aquaintance who died of ... I think it was Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 13. poor kid. It was either what you had (non hodgkins) or it just wasn't treatable at that time (about 8 years ago).

Thanks again, everyone.

As far as my being a fighter goes, trust me, there were definitely times when I didn't want to fight. At all. Oddly, it was early on in my treatment when this happened, not later (Probably because I was simply too weak to do much besides sleep later on)...I recall asking a nurse to put me on antidepressants at one point because "Right now, I wish I were dead, because if I were dead, then I wouldn't be going through this." or something very similar. Eventually, a psychologist type guy came in, and basically concluded that I was fine on the basis of I more-or-less didn't complain when everything was going smoothly; it was only when bumps in the road came up that I'd start freaking out.

Obviously, though, I got through it.

Well I'm happy that you're finally cancer free! It's a really good to hear someone fight through the trials of cancer.

Eh my uncles, girlfriends daughter just got diagnosed with cancer and she's going through chemo so I hope hers also turns out a success story.

I hope your convalescence goes well, Emptyeye; the most difficult type of enemy to defeat is the one which lies within your own body. If you don't mind me asking, what accompanied chemotherapy? I've read up on the subject, but I've never heard about the procedure from someone who actually went through it. Was it pills that you took, or daily injections or what? If injections, were you an outpatient who came in regularly for injections, or were you in the hospital with an IV hooked up for long periods of time? Was this the sole treatment, or was it part of a regieme including other types of cancer treatment? Did you go to a regular hospital, or one of those special cancer treatment centers?

Please, don't answer if you don't really want to. My curiousity isn't important enough to bother with if it's hard to talk about for you.
